EGM has been hinting about a possible remake. It would probably be for PS3. And Prak is right about the internet petition part. I would like a complete remake of FF7, but it seems kinda questionable whether Square would invest enough time and money to make the remake as good as the original.

Watch the interview.

Nomura says that he'd like to expand the FF7 Tech Demo into a full remake, but he's got a lot on his plate at the moment - if there is a remake, it probably won't be for a while.

But please cease your online partitions, lest Square-Enix sees the stuipidity of those who want the game badly, and decides not to make it out of spite =/

Below is a copy of the email sent to forum member JKozzy from Square-Enix. They also provide a response to a question about a Final Fantasy VII remake.

-------------------

Thank you for contacting the Square Enix Customer Support,

No information has been announced in regards to a possible collectors or limited edition for the North American release of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children at this time. Yes there is one for the Japanese release, but nothing has been said officially that there will be one or something similar here in North America. There also is no information on any special features, language options or extras announced at this time.

Updated information in regards to Final Fantasy VII Advent Children will be discussed and available on an upcoming issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly. Please stay tuned for those official details.

Unfortunately at this time Final Fantasy VII will not be remade for any current or next generation platform/console. This is not to say that it will never happen, it's just that SQUARE ENIX of Japan is currently focusing on numerous other projects. You can get updated information on our latest & upcoming releases from the "Latest News" portion of our website, www.square-enix.com.

Thanks,
Square Enix Customer Support

I'm sure in the years to come, it will be remade, as they do with most movies nowadays, too.

Oh yeah, an internet petition. Those allways work. can't wait 'till SE sees the petition and realise that they should make a remake.

Not.

theres no point in making a remake of it plus i think 8 9 10 and 10-2 were way better

there will be a remake.. eventually
fans have been asking for it since the launch of the ps2 and thousand of magazines have written an article about it not to mention the massive amount of petitions
Squenix wont ignore the chanse to cash in on a relatively simple thing and i know i will buy it if only to throw it in peoples face the original is soo much better :')

I am not saying that the petitions do work, however Square-Enix has politely noted the extent of the hysteria surrounding a Final Fantasy VII next generation remake.

I think they have pulled AC of well from what I have herd and seen and tbh, It has disolved my opinions against a remake.

The compilation would be more fine tuned in my humble opinion

Electronic Gaming Monthly Oct. 2005.

Even so, company representatives seem remiss to confirm that the demo is anything more then a theoretical showcase, "Well, if the team were to decide to remake the game for PS3 with that level of quality," says FFVII Director Yoshinori Kitase, "we'd have to hire 300 people and it would take about five years." Hmm....that doesn't mean that Square Enix isn't already doing that, right? Kitase went on to speculate on what the graphical prowess of the PS3 could do for the game: "In a PS3 FF game, we'll be able to have such incredibly detailed character models that when you change their clothing and equipment, we'll be able to carry that look throughout battles, fields, and sinema scenes."

Advent Children Director Tetsuya Namura doesn't rule out the possibility of the project coming to fruition. "Mr. Kitase has told me many times that if there is a remake, that I should create it," Namura admits. "But I have so many projects already in the pipeline that it would be difficult to squeeze it in...perhaps if the timing is just right, though. It's a very interesting prospect..."
