Yeah. The whole "shinra" thing is debatable. Lets just take it as it is and draw are own personal conclusions, i think.

I have noticed as few things....

But heres a wierd one...play FFX and complete the cloister of trials in djose for the first time. As you leave here and walk across the bridge out, stop and listen to the music! Its the same as the music you hear in FFVII when Aeris has been killed. Its just played on a different instrument and possibly at a slightly differnt pace.

Was wierd when i first realised that. =-O

That music score in FFVII is so sad. :'(

Just sit there and listen when you get on the bridge...maybe even before!?!?!

Hmm, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned one particular link that got a lot of airtime a while back.

If you catch Rin as the culprit in the Mi'ihen Highroad Mystery investigation, he talks of a plan to extract energy that sleeps under Spira and use it to power machina. Some, including the author of the FAQ on that particular sidequest at GameFAQs (http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/562386.html) have compared this to FFVII. In other words --- that energy is like Mako energy.

Yeah, although, as i am hurt to say, i havent played all of all the FF's,they all Kinda revoulve around saving energy of "The earth" or in FFX words "Spira".

Swedish Fish

That's not true. FF8 for instance revolves around saving the world (no relation with "earth energy"), FF9 is killing an evil bad guy (no real relation with "earth energy"), FF1 is killing an evil sorcerer thing (no relation with "earth energy"), FF2 is killing an evil dictator (no relation with "earth energy"). Actually very little in FF revolves around the "energy of the earth". And in FFX, of course it revolves around Spira. Do you think it would revolve around like the world of Mario?

So true! If there's any one thing connecting most of the later FF games, I'd say it's the importance of the plot revolving around the summons. Obviously you had FFVI's espers which were very important to the plot. FFVIII, not so much so. But then you had FFVIII with its Guardian Forces which had a pretty big part to play. And then FFIX --- Eidolons, definitely. And finally the aeons in FFX --- major, major-time stuff.

Oh and there is one obvious one

CHOCOBOS!!!!!
Oh, give me a huge break. Chocobos? Hello?!? Pretty much every FF game?

Yeah chocobos are pretty FF series universal. I think even if there is a similarity between FFX and FF7 that is shown in Rins comment about harvesting the earths energies that its of no consequence... theres a reference to something that sounds slightly similar to mako... so what?

YAY CHOCOBOS!!!!! although i am not fully sure about this but final fantasy does have alot about summons.

Yeah, I definitely don't disagree with that. I only brought it up because it is an idea that seems to have gained quite a bit of credibility with some.

We could go on about this for hours, there's absolutely loads of them! I think I even pointed a lot of them out? Or was that FFIX?

I have noticed alot of Final Fantasy VII Style themes being implemented into the Final Fantasy X songs, But those are the only links I can actually think of between Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII ?_?

Unless that's all you meant.

The only similarities in the games come from the "Final Fantasy" in the title, and the fact they were made by the same damn company. End of.

Agent0042

Right, and that's the bottom-line. Because it's not like any of the Final Fantasy games share any common themes, any common character or enemy types, etc. etc. Nope, none at all.

That's because they are using the formula that has worked in the past in each new game. It is not a storyline link of any sort, period.

Well i`ll say one thing. I remember reading an interview, which btw i`ll try and track down, in which the guy who did the story for 10 and 10-2 said that the Shinra link was on purpose. He said, even if some poeople didn`t agree, he wanted a link between the two worlds. He said it was more for his enjoyment than anything else.

Yeah, adding a little joke reference is not the same as an actual link. Kind of like the appearance of a Biggs and Wedge somewhere in each of the games.

These people are proposing similarities as though there is some grand Final Fantasy universe in which all of these worlds exist and that somewhere you're going to get a game with the characters meeting each other and shit in a game that doesn't involve Disney characters (read: they use "similarities" to mean "storyline link"). It's been done in six different threads that I can remember, and each time the fanboy rantings get more ridiculous.

It's quite pathetic, really.
