Japanese cosplay is very different from other lands' cosplay. Around the world we get very ugly cosplayers in shabby outfits, but in Japan they at least pay attention to the quality of their suit. Also, Japanese seem more self-conscious: they don't dress up if they know they are ugly.

Maybe it is just because it's Japan.

And just because someone's unattractive to you doesn't mean they shouldn't be able to cosplay. I get really annoyed when I see people laughing over a perfectly good costume just because the person wearing it is overweight. Do more people here wear costumes they shouldn't? Probably. But that shouldn't outweigh all the talented cosplayers here who put a lot of work into their costume.

There are cosplay idols and a lot of the cosplay archives people go to are that sort... as opposed to the "here are me and my friends and every random person in a costume at the con" American ones(not that I really visit cosplay sites... its just what I see people linking to for the most part) that tend to be posted. I think it's also easier for the japanese to get professionally made costumes.

first up, those american cosplayer females, damn fine and I mean DAMN. But that was what, 5 pictures. Those links to Japanese cosplay cons were like all damn good. I never said Japan was the only good cosplayer country, i just said they are the best at it. But by all means, drag more photos up to prove me wrong if they gonna look that good :P
