FFX is a great game and one of the only problems I have with it is Tidus. Or rather his name. Nobody says it except for once or twice but never with voice. They always refer to Tidus as "him", "son of Jecht", or "you". Does anybody know why they just don't call him Tidus?

Because you were alowed to change his name at the start of the game. If you named him Bob at the beginning of the game and everyone was saying Tidus it would look a bit weird.

Try naming Tidus at the beginning "Yuna". Then at The Spring Scene, Yuna will sound like a schizophrenic (by just reading the subtitles), and whenever Tidus chats about Yuna, he will sound like he is chatting about and to himself!

Actually, the only reason why you never hear is name, is because you can -change- his name just before you start the game.

His name is taken from from the word "Tida" which means the sun. This is supported by the fact that the Sun crest and Sun Sigil are needed to power up his ultimate weapon. Yuna also means the moon btw (again, supported by the fact that she needs the moon crest and Sigil)

I think that they just call Tidus "him" "son of jecht"or"you" because at the begininng of the game you can change his name so the makers of the game couldn't really have his name said if you choose to change it

by the way, if tidus was just a dream of the fayth why he could just so live like that....i didn't get it.....and what i don't understand is which zanarkand is he came from? the one that lived by the fayth or the one from the 1000 years ago? they say sin came in war between bevelle and zanarkand in 1000 years before yuna's pilgrimage, and tidus was from the 1000 years old zanarkand, but why there's no war in tidus's memories (the flash back), is there someone could help me to explain it? plsssss

He came from Dream Zanarkand, as did Jecht.
I'll give you a little backstory:

Yevon was originally the ruler of Zanarkand, 1000 years in the war against Bevelle. He knew that Zanarkand was losing the war, and wanted to perserve the memory of Zanarkand forever. He turned all of the citizens of Zanarkand into fayth, and used them to continuously summon Dream Zanarkand, a replica of the city removed from all war, located far out to sea to hide it from the rest of Spira. To protect himself while he summoned, he created Sin; it would also attack all technologically advanced areas in Spira, keeping anybody from building technology to find DZ.

Unfortunately, Yevon's mind was unable to handle the strain of summoning DZ non-stop, and he became Yu Yevon, whose sole purpose was to maintain DZ and destroy all advanced civilisations in Spira. Yunalesca, Yevon's daughter, spread the myth that Sin was summoned by Yevon in order to take revenge on Bevelle, and devised "The Final Summoning", which could, one day, destroy Sin if humanity had atoned for its sins. In order to appease Yevon, they started to worship him as a god.

I don't even want to talk about Tidus. I hate his whiny voice, and he makes me violent.

Sometimes.

I went to e3 this year, and apparently in Final Fantasy XIV and onwards, Square-Enix is thinking of bringing in a pronunciation key that asks how your characters names are pronounced and then incorporates that into the rest of the game.

i understand most of the yevon thing but how did tidus become realif he was a dream? if he was a dream then werever someone touched him wouldnt there hand go through him. Same for auron

Omaklise

that was the power of the Fayth and Yu Yevon, they made him real, thats why when he killed Yu Yevon and destroyed the Aeons / Fayth, Tidus and Auron both disappeared

The word 'dream' in this context refers to the 'dream of the fayth', meaning Yu Yevon using the fayth to summon Dream Zanarkand and all its inhabitants, meaning that Tidus is as real as the aeons. Though he could not exist without the fayth, that wouldn't make him any less corporeal. And Auron was not a dream, he was unsent. He was born and lived in Spira until ten years before the start, when he came to Dream Zanarkand via Sin to look after Tidus. After Yu Yevon is defeated, he allows himself to be sent, as he was only still there due to his promise to Jecht.

wasnt it because they allow you to rename him at the start, and then they wouldnt be able to say what you typed in, so they left out his name for that feature maybe?

Okinawan. The word 'yuna' means 'moon'.
