I Dont know If Im The Only Person Who Thinks This Way But im Kind of An Afficiando Of Fighting Games And I Personally Would Prefer to Play Street Fighter Or King Of Fighters Etc. Over Playing Tekken, Soul Calibre Or virtua Fighter. They Have A Blistering Speed To Them And Theyre More tactical Than Say Using Eddy In Tekken They Usually have more Characters Than Most Wrestling Games And For 2d Most Of Snk's or Capcom's Graphics Look Fantastic. Maybe Im Just Too Old... Or Maybe Fighting Games hit Their Pinnacle In 1991 With Street Fighter 2 And Everything Else Has Owed Something To It...

I would personally prefer to play a 2D fighting game rather than something like Tekken or whatever.
Street Fighter 2 was very good (and still is) but im not sure wether to say games owe it is fair. The majority of 2D fighting games that come out are made by one of two companies.
Either Capcom or SNK (or both! Capcom vs Insane thought here 3004) SO to say that they owe Street Fighter is probably wrong because Capcom cant really owe themselves because they made the game and if Capcom hadn't made their games like that then SNK would have.

EDIT: Infact the only other companies i can think of that make games like this are Midway (Mortal Kombat) and Rare (Killer Instinct)

Trying to think....
I've got Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter EX2 ( the graphics might be faux 3D but it's still pretty much a 2D affair ), Capcom vs. SNK 2, SVC Chaos, K.O.F.2000/2001, Street Fighter 3, Darkstalkers 3, Street Fighter Anniversary Edition...so I quite obviously despise 2D fighters and everything they stand for.

I adore 2-D fighting games.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, I'd just like to say that the Guilty Gear series is WONDEROUS.

i like all fighting games. from 2d to 3d to misc.(Smash Bros.).
I wish there were more new 2d games out these days, because I've only seen a few new things in the newer titles in series, take Guilty Gear for example.

Do you think Capcom and/or SNK should try to make more 3d fighters?
I've only played Street Fighter EX once and it was ok and I owned KOF-Maximum Impact for a short time and I think it was a good first attempt for SNK, but not spectacular...

KOF, Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter are all great 2D fighters, plus if you consider Streets Of Rage a fighter the original one is brilliant

MogKnight

Virtua Fighter wasn't a 2D fighter :(

I highly suggest (if your arcade actually imports JPN games) trying out Neogeo Battle colosseum. It's a fighting game from SNK that tosses a good number of Neogeo Characters in a 2 on 2 fighting environment. Favorites include Kyo, Nakoruru, Marco (From Metal Slug), Hanzo/Fumma (From World Heroes) AND.... Iori. <3

Are they japanese? I'm not sure of what kind of problems you're having, but changing your system's regional setting to japan is often required for the games to run on your system.

I've only played one such game... a fighting game of people in cosplay. I only used the fatguy dressed as a super robot. yup. There are some games like Melty Blood that I've wanted to try, but I don't have a game pad.

I've been playing a bit of KOF 95 recently. And when I got to school a friend showed up and just happened to have two japanese KOF 95 information/strategy guides for me, which was neat.

Yo rezo (or anyone else who's interested in Melty Blood) the ps2 "sequel" of sorts to Melty Blood ReACT, Melty Blood Act Cadenza is out in Japan. If you have the ability to import you can pick it up from any good import site (play-asia.com, ncsx.com, etc). If you don't have the ability to import and are looking for a good gamepad, I've found that the SmartJoy ps2 to USB adaptor works better than most gamepads (most gamepads aren't made as well as a ps2 controller) and the ps2 is the most familiar to me. You can find a variety of SmartJoy console to USB adaptors really cheap here at Lik-Sang. (http://www.lik-sang.com/list.php?category=160&)

Oh, and for those of you who'd like the PC version of Melty Blood (either ReACT or the Act Cadenza ps2 isos) let me know and I'll link you no problem.

I personnaly liked the mortal kombat series better out of any 2d fighing games they had soomth gameplay visually great and fun to play wit hall the fatalitys characters and tornaments, though i hate the mortal kombats on ps2,xbox and Gcube, the gameplay is really slow.i dont really like all thoughs anime games you get nowadays,i likew street fighter2,i bought street fighter alpha 3 heard it was brilliant i hated itit was to advanced, had to many characters that were awful,i just have the 25 year aniversy street fighter 2 edition thats class for you, though i have to say it i preffer Tekken out of any fighting game series,The characters are brilliant and the story thiis game surpasses any other by far,and the gameplay is fast and smooth, along with good graphics and moves to do and has the addicting survival more the best addition to fighting games ever what more do you want, though i didnt like T5 that much i got bored of it really quick there wasnt much new for me i hated the new characters (same with T4 actually)shame oh well.T ekken 3 still entertains me regulary so i dont mind

Nothing can beat Capcom Alpha's trademark supermacy, super-cool super moves, or just moving so fast that your shadow adds to the hit count. Better than Guilty Gear, or SNK, but SNK comes in second, Soul Caliburin third, Tekken in fourth, Guilty gear in fifth, and Virtua fighter in last.

Tekken
Soul Calibur(all of them)(Siegfried rocks!)
Virtua Fighter
King of Fighters
Fatal Fury(all of them, including Mark of the Wolves)
Art of Fighting(it's hard to use the controls, but still fun. LOL.)
Final Fight (Hella awesome. Playing it since I was a kid! Prefer 1 and 2 over 3, and especially Streetwise. That sucked!)
Streets of Rage(the second one would be my preferred one.Grand Upper!)
