First off, the only Animes i owned are "Akira" and "Ghost in the shell" although i have seen quite and few over the years. But i never considered Anime as film until i saw "Ghost in the shell", the art, pace, action and atmoshpere was amazing. So only quite recently i`ve decided to invest some time into some other Anime movies, so i just wanted to ask, where do i start?. I enjoyed "Ghost in the shell" like i said so that should give you an example of what i`m looking for.

So, any advice?

If you want more of the same, it would be best to start with things like Appleseed and Jin-Roh. Maybe Spriggan. If you want to branch out into other types of movies, just say what type you're interested in.

If you like more serious anime like GITS, you might enjoy Noir too.

It's not for everyone- it moves a little slow- but it's definitely worth checking out.

Second'd. Noir is pretty great.

Thx guys. I`ve heard a lot about a movie called "Ninja Scroll" from a friend of mine. Will i check it out. Also, is the Ghost in the shell sequel anything on the original?

There's the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex series out on DVD. The series is set before the movie. I've seen the first DVD and so far I like it a lot. I'd suggest watching the Spriggan movie. Not everyone likes it. It's a serious anime. It's pretty much a 'save the world' film, but it's really good and it's got an original storyline. I'd suggest staying away from the Overfiend films. They're pretty much just porn films with demons in them.

omg i can't believe i forgot that one. thanks odin. seriously. if you had to watch anything at all. watch X. but don't get hyped. i hate hype and don't condone it. so tell yourself "sure i'll give it a shot, can't hurt" and don't expect anything. that way you'll enjoy it more.

/me really hates hype. hype can kill good things.

and i'd like an answer to the gits sequel too. i thought about buying it. but didn't. i'd like to know more about it.

Haha, I was going to mention Ninja Scroll as a joke since "Akira", "Ghost in the Shell" and "Ninja Scroll" were the startup anime movies usually recommended in the mid 90s. I just assumed that people would have replaced them with other stuff by now!

I just thought I'd mention that Ninja scroll bored me so badly I slept through half of it. Then again, I also detest Akira and can only regard GitS highly as a period piece. If you want a real classic, try Venus Wars.

Yeah, Venus Wars was good. I'd put it over Gits and Ninja Scroll easy(I'm not too fond of either... but they both have nice visuals)

I didn't like how they mixed in real footage with the animation though =\

If you like pretty boys watch Gundam Wing, or Saiyuki. Just thought I'd mention that. Also Korean manga is really good nowadays, Tokyopop is a good one for that, the translations are pretty damn accurate. Although they only have stuff from Daiwon, oh well.

Okay, I'm not so busy at the moment. Okay if you want to watch a good, and funny anime watch FLCL.

Furi Kuri:
The story is about a young boy named, Naota who hangs out with Mamimi, the girlfriend of Naota's absentee brother. Their relationship is an uneasy one, since Mamimi seems to enjoy teasing Naota quite a bit. Suddenly, their time together is interrupted by the arrival of a seemingly insane girl on a motorscooter. She runs over Naota and then whacks him in the head with her guitar..

The second one is called, Green Green. If you like perverted sort of like anime this is what you should watch.

The story on this anime is about, Hanaoka a high school for girls, and the girls were pretty excited when they heard that boys were admitted into their high school. Smart and elegant boys, that's in their fantasy. However, in reality, the boys who were actually admitted are from the countryside and not smart at all, leave alone being elegant. And in fact, two of them are dirty perverts.

The third one I recomend is one of my favorite manga, but I've not seen the anime. But from what I've seen so far, the anime should be pretty good.

Tittle- Hikaru No Go
Story: Hikaru Shindo is just a normal 12 year old Japanese boy. One day, he's rumaging through his Grandfather's things to see if he can find something to sell and pulls out an old Go board. A ghostly apparation appears out of the board and tells Hikaru his sad story. His name is Sai Fujiwara, a man who was a Go instructor to the emperor of Japan a thousand years ago.

Well would like to recommend more anime for you, but I'm in a rush. So try these anime and tell me how they are.

wow jiro. nice descriptions. very few, (and i really mean, VERY FEW) people can summarize the basic plot of a story and actually get my attention! did you make those yourself? whew. i actually feel like watching all 3 of those. thanks for the recomendations.

did i say classics? i said "old anime". or aka, our roots! we must never forget where we came from! as emberrasing as it might be for everyone here. i'm personally happy causeof it.

as for venus wars. is that the one where...well nevermind. i'd be trying to describe random things in the hopes that this anime i saw long ago could be named. i forgot what it was called but it was really interesting. something about trying to move into another planet cause the one they are on now is like..no good no more. mostly centering around this boy and a girl though i think. let me know if i'm wrong. :p

I hesitate to even call Ghost in the Shell or Ninja Scroll old, but I guess they are now? =\

Certainly not our roots though! Maybe your roots! BECAUSE YOU'RE SO YOUNG YOU SEE. LOTS OF KIDS STARTED WITH GHOST IN THE SHELL AND NINJA SCROLL. LOTS OF YOUNG KIDS LIKE TACT THAT ARE YOUNG.

lol. i don't know if i should even try to defend myself. i think i'd rather be called young and have people think i'm 14 than to say i'm really 21 (one year younger than you) and have people realize that i came in late in the game and dind't know about anime at all till 98 which i think is more emberassing. sooo...i'll take the young comment. gives me a few more years to act immature in here and that's what i enjoy. :D

I just watched the first Full Metal Panic! DVD and it was great! It has it's serious moments but it has way more funny moments! I was sitting watching it at my PC and I nearly toppled my chair backwards from laughing too much!

Another anime I'd recommend is Martian Successor Nadesico. It's set in the future and humans have colonised Mars, but they get attacked by a strange alien race (can't remember what they're called) and a war starts. The series focus is set around the crew of the spaceship Nadesico. It's mainly a comedy but it does get serious at the right times.
