Since finishing university, and returning to my shit-pit of a home town, I've kind of fallen off the new music bandwagon. I don't know a great deal of places to look online for new music, and to be honest, discovering unheard of bands was always pretty fun.

So, how about we provide links to/talk about new bands, rare bands, or just local bands that just play in or near your hometown?

Being at university, I was surrounded by people who were from everywhere, so I got a pretty decent spectrum of music from them. The only place I know now where people come from all over is here.

I take it there isn't some stupid rule about linking to band websites? I didn't read through the rules to this forum, because I figured being an established member would mean that I wouldn't have to...

Anyway, two bands that I've got into lately have pretty crappy names, but I find there music pretty super. They are:

Keith (http://www.keithonline.com/) , which have recently got some airplay on London's XFM, and:

Milburn (http://www.milburnmusic.com/), who, in my humble opinion, are absolutely supurb.

Another of their songs, "What You Could Have Won" can be found here. (http://www.nme.com/features/112768.htm). This is the first song of theirs that I heard, and is my personal favourite.

Hey man, awesome to see you back. Anyway;

There's this Japanese band that I've found out in the past few weeks called the pillows (http://www.pillows.gr.jp/) who are pretty cool. They've supported Pixies and Weezer a few times.

Also a few months ago I got into Speaking Canaries. (http://www.scatrecords.com/canaries.htm) Try and imagine a cross between Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr and Van Halen, and an obesession with aliens.

Also I discovered Sparklehorse. (http://www.sparklehorse.com/songs.html) Another weird band. Basically a one-man band, who does a mixture between country sounding vocals, mixed with some good rock and alittle bit of an experimentalist.

My last recommendation is The Shins. (http://www.theshins.com/) They're a awesome band with some great acoustic songs to relax to. I recommend 'New Slang.' (They only have the video for New Slang, but it's a great song to listen to anyway.)

I am trying to get a recording of my band to post up here. I should be able to get something at the end of the summer as we're back at college then, so we can use the college's recording equipment.

And again, good to see you back.

My friends are in the band The Super Nashwan Kids (Tsnk)

They've played London Astoria and have been signed, I've been told it's only a matter of time before they emerge.

They're kinda a mix up of a lot of genres and have such a gifted guitarist.

This is their site, you should find some music and stuff there.

I've been pretty in to Rodrigo Y Gabriela (http://www.rubyworks.com/mp3/mrtang.mp3) for the past few months. A Mexican guitar duo heavily influenced by heavy metal music, as evident in their version of Metallica's "One" (http://www.rubyworks.com/mp3/onetake5.mp3). They perform solely with their acoustic guitars, occasionly accompanied by the odd violin.

pre)Thing is a pretty good band. They're pure rock music, and they have talent. It's a damn shame the singer had to go before the record was released. I say the best song is Faded Love (http://www.crazytown.info/Music/pre)Thing/pre)Thing-Faded%20Love.mp3).

The local music scene around here is pretty awesome one of my favorites is Cloud Cult (http://www.cloudcult.com/) they are kinda like elctro Indie pop and are fun to listen to. They are also super eco friendly and have a tour van that runs on Biodiesel, they use all recycled paper for their cd cases, and at this big outdoor festival that I saw them at they powered all thier amps with generators that ran on corn oil.

also: the soviettes! (http://www.thesoviettes.net/)

That is pretty awesome. <3

But more importantly most fun band to listen to ever = Architecture In Helsinki (www.architectureinhelsinki.com/)

They are some kind of super combonation of Tsnumai Bomb, The Arcade Fire, and sometimes they remind of They Might Be Giants. So yeah super awesome.
