I would say the word 'Sorceress' in her/his name is overwhelming evidence in favour of Adel being of the female gender.

Apparently I read somewhere that sorceress is the wrong term and sorcerer should only be used.. but unfortunately I can't come up with sources to confirm.. therefore I don't blame anyone for doubting me. I just read it somewhere... If you do use the word sorcerer it can be applied to either gender. But who said they couldn't use the word sorceress anyhow right?

It also depends on the series or whatever nonfiction thingy you are into.
In this case FF8 only has female witches so they went with sorceress.. so... yeah. Apparently Adel either has a case of strong testosterones or took steroids. Or maybe she really is a man.. There are so many things that people can come up with.. maybe the art director was feeling twisted the day they confirmed character designs?? Who knows.

Personally myself I just view her as man instead because everytime I see her...its just to confusing for my poor brain. It actually is rather annoying.
