Someone once told me that Aeris and Aerith have the same pronounciation. If it's true or not, I don't know.

Depends what part of the world you're in. As for the name thing, Aerith is Japanese and Aeris is English.

Ive not been here long so I will just say.

Aeris sounds like a proper name, similar to the star sign.

and Aerith sounds the same only pronounced by someone with a lisp.

Might as well put my two cents in: ^^

Aerith was the original name for the "flower girl" in FFVII in Japan but when it was to be realeased elsewhere they decided to change it to a smoother sounding name, which we westerners now as Aeris. It wasn`t a mess up or misspelling.

Also, what people also found out while hacking the game, is that hidden in the coding there is some script reffering to Aerith/Aeris as Earith. Early name? Coding name? You decide.

Quite possible, FFVII is filled with debugable jokes and gags.

Just a little info, not important really but i been playing Kingdom hearts recently and they called aeris, Aerith in that game.....
So i wounder why square changing it to Aeris for europeon versions when they now stick with Aerith in later europeon game releases ?

Yeah, i think they did that because after they changed "Aerith" to "Aeris" in FFVII and saw how much confusion there was and how many theories spawned from it they decided not to take that chance anymore.

Some say it comes down to pronuciation. I don`t mean to generalise but when Asian people pronounce the "th" (in Aerith) it sounds like an "s". Therefore, it sounds like a good reason to call her "Aeris" gere. It almost seems, although different spelling, the name is said the same worldwide.

I don`t know for sure but i think they`ll make it Aerith. I don`t think they`ll want a name divison in the movie.
