I was playing through FFVII again recently, and right before I was about to save, I got the ever infamous face-face-bar. I was forced to watch as my seemingly invulnerable party (over level 50 at the beginning of disk two) were enveloped within strange purple skulls that were lethal, regardless of any protection my characters might have had.

So I wonder, did Square HAVE to put in the threat of instant death in the use of a character's limit break? I mean, I know it's sort of the counterpart to the Instant Victory, with Cait Sith's full face, which can even defeat the Emerald and Ruby Weapons or the last boss. But really, instant death?

So I was wondering, who else has had this experience, who has gotten an Instant Victory, and is one more likely than the other? And is it even worth it to use slots, when the Dice limit break is at least close to as powerful and comes much more quickly?

Heh. One of my favorite (actually, one of my only decent...) memories from playing FFVII was the first time I used Cait Sith's slots. I got the face-face-bar. I wasn't at all bothered by it; in fact, I found it hilarious. I used his slots limit all the time trying to duplicate it, but even though I got the full face 3-4 times, I never got the face-face-bar again.

The face-face-bar is the slot combination for the attack called "Death Joker." The attack engulfs YOUR characters with strange purple skulls, and you get an automatic game over.

I'm fairly certain that the instant win works on bosses, because I remember Selfie's "The End" finished off Diablos when my friend used it in FFVIII, so I figure it was the same in FFVII. Plus, it's not like the instant death doesn't work if you're fighting a boss, so it's only fair.

It would be even funnier if you accendently used kotr on yourself due to getting confused just before you cast the spell.
Something similar happened to me only with aqualung instead, in the shinra mansion.

I never use cait sith if i don't have to so ive never got insta-win or insta-death, and ive never got lucky 7's either. yet i play this game loads.

I have something weird like that One time i was playing with my party fighting headhunters and those stupid slug things you fight sometimes too, and I had Cloud and Barret killed off so Cid would do all the killing, and at the end of one of my battles a message came up and said "Lucky 7's" keep in mind i had no cait sith in my party, and i didnt use any crazy enemy skills or anything. and the next battle i started Cid was at 1 hp and a headhunter just hit me and i died and lost.

Whats the Deal with that?

But selphie's The End doesn't kill Ultimecia and i'm pretty sure it didn't kill Omega Weapon, i didn't use Cait Sith so it can kill bosses but maybe it can't kill the last ones and the Weapons

I used it on Emerald. I had his limit ready and I just kept doing it over and over until it hit face face face and it killed emerald. In...10 min of restarting the game.

That can happen with Aqualung, yes, but you can't summon against yourself. Nor can you reflect a summon. I guess the game makers wanted some sort of saving grace from confuse, but I know that you can't be hit by one of your own summons, whether the enemy has reflect or you're confused.

Cloud Cid Yuffie

Lucky 7's doesn't necessairly (sp?) occur with Cait Sith . It occurs when one of your characters gets an HP of 7777, afterwards your power increases and you always land a hit of 7777 each time. When you start the next battle your HP is automatically reduced to 1.

Prak
09-08-2005, 02:14 AM
You're an idiot. If it's built into the game mechanic, it isn't a cheat. That's doubly true considering you have equal odds of your party dying when you use the slots.

Andyuk
09-08-2005, 03:02 AM
Cait siths limit is similar to other moves like kotr and omni slash in the sense that they beat almost any fight in the game 1st time. Only his isn't a move you can use everytime.
Cait sith is not cheating otherwise he would be a hidden character rather than one you HAVE to get.

No offence, but to and extent, you don't need skill to be good at RPG's.
Yes, if you level up to level 100 and find everything without a walkthrough that is excellent. However unlike say a shooting game, where you have to be either stealthy or very good with a gun, you only need to train your ass off to be good at them.

As for Cait Sith, i actually find him to be a very cool character, i know he looks like a pokemon, but he is quite smart and powerful.

Light~Nimbo-stratus
09-08-2005, 05:06 PM
Well, ONE of the hidden chars is at least. This IS NOT a rumor, I have tested it myself:
Go to Goblin Island, after a while you'll get into a fight with a monster/char named Boxer, defeat him and you go to a scene like the one after you beat Yuffie. You have to select the CORRECT answers and he will join you, I repeat, THIS IS NOT A RUMOR.

Ok guys, please discuss the slots or let this thread die. Talking about getting this random character on the Goblin Isle has absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

About the Death to All thing, I officially agree with Prak. It's just hilarious. I mean, it was kind of irritating at first, but now, when I look back, it was just funny. I had to go all the way back to the last save point because Cait Sith's limit break backfired and killed my party. I think the potential for this makes it worth it to use Cait Sith simply to add humor to the game.
