I apologise if someone else has already made a topic like this recently.

All along ive thought it was a glitch. I laughed when people claimed it to be a 'ghost'. Would a ghost instantly dissapear before the screen has even faded in (brightened up fully). Basically i think it's to do with a programming error, bug or something similar, remember final fantasy 7 did have stuff cut due to deadlines and such.

Think about how the game may work, the background pitcure and code and all the character models that would appear are loaded into the memory, (cloud ,Aries, that turk bloke, shinra soldiers and those kids) at some point different actions affect what is placed where. The very first time Aries and Cloud are in the middle and almost every other time before disk 3 cloud appears at the door by himself and on disk 3 onward the kids are there too.

I think that the code to show Aries not be standing in the middle was quickly changed by adding an extra line of code that quickly makes her dissapear after she has joined your team. Only it doesn't work very well as it shows her for a little while.

or it could just be cloud remembering her because thats the place that they really started to know each other and has a deep signifigance to him as his way of preserving her memory. if it was a glitch why would it show her doing her victory pose there instead of tending to the flowers?

Maybe at some point she was going to appear as a ghost, but was taken out at the last minute albiet not completely.

i have been to that website before but missed the last paragraph. However I can confirm that you see the glitch everytime you enter the church 'EVERY TIME'

she isnt there for a split second shes there forever if you stay in on spot and dont walk towards her but you step back or leave and re enter she is still there

It's obviously not a glitch, or they would have edited it out in the PC version.

So, In conclusion, it is there on purpose but so far has no uses at all.

When FF7 came out there were people that called her Aerith, not sure why. I have never played Kingdom Hearts and don't care for Square making games with Disney either.

On my game she is named Aeris. I think the thread starter might have spelt Aeris wrong, dunno.
Most people probablt bought a game shark to revive Aeris, so they could easily beat Emerald and Ruby Weapon, because of Aeris' final limit break Great Gospel (makes your characters invinceable for one battle).

U.S.A. spells Aeris/Aerith as Aeris, the continent of China spell's it Aerith.

I know 'Earith' sounds weird but if you place a PSX version of FF7 in a PC, you will see a file called 'Earith' under 'menu'.The names of the files are for the pictures of the characters.

Well, I don't know where it is that uses Aerith then.If you use a cheat cartridge/disc, it says Aerith.But in Japenese Earith and Aerith translate as Aeris. the 'th' is pronounced 's'

that could be reffering to many parts of the game, the very end for instance or when cloud and co go with bugenhagen to the ancient city.

Upon indulging in a spoiler fest apparently Aeris appears at the end of advent children in full figure form and cloud can see her bright as day, so maybe the ghost seen is realy meant to be there, it is just rendering technology in the Ps1 made it look like a glitch, Aeris always called the church home and would be watching over it even after life.

What everyone seems to be forgetting to mention is that if you are not kind to Aeris in the game, that "ghost" will not appear. Go ahead and try it. If you don't use several speech choices that make her happy you will not see her in the church at all. So that's why I think it was intentionally put in the game.
