I dug out my Megadrive/Genesis today (cos unemployed and fuck all to do with my day) and played a couple of old games, and felt pretty joyous. At one point, I did think that I would actually wet myself.
I gave a spin of an old FPS I used to play loads back in the day, called 'Zero Tolerance', and its absolutely delicious. After enduring the ridiculously silly plots of MGS 3 (HI, I'M 160 AND I LIVE LIKE A TREE, LOLZ!), the plot of this game was super refreshing - "ALIENS, LOTS OF THEM, BLOW THEM TO BITS". It was repetetive, without reason and over the top with gore - and it was fabulous. It was sort of like remembering your childhood, when cares were zero, and you just did whatever, whenever.
And then, the ultimate platformer - Cool Spot! Yet again, such a silly little game. A small red dude bounces around rescuing all his mates. Why have they been locked up? Who cares! Whats the background to each level? None! Brilliant. The CIA, tree men, and quadruple/octagongle (O_O) agents were nowhere in sight, and it were fookin' grand.
However, it seems that as you get older, these 16 bit consoles completely ruin your eyes. I finished playing, and felt like some kind of skull beaver was making a house out of my sweet sweet retina's.
SO YEAH! Anybody else gone back in time, lately?
EDIT: Sorry, stupid blunder. Noticed that there is a similar thread already.
