Any recommendations for books and the like? Recently got a cheap electric guitar and naturally want to learn to play well in near future. I've got a couple of books picked randomly from Barnes and Noble (does anyone besides the twin conglomerates of B&N and Borders sell books anymore?) and things seem to be going well but I thought the knowledgeable FFS community might have some intelligent suggestions. And where would the best place to get tabs be? I know there are alot of post your own type things out there but I was wondering if there is a better source.

My grandma gave me a classical guitar awhile back, and some book she picked up at a rummage sale thats supposed to teach you how to play. I can pick up any other instrument and play it fine, but when I try to use a guitar, my hands go retarded :( I guess practice makes perfect. Either that or I need bigger hands/longer fingers.

PS, I can read music just fine, but not tabs. Thing is, its a lot easier to find tabs for songs online than regular sheet music. I need to learn how to play tabs :(

Goto www.looknohands.com for a great way to find out what chords are what, and also try out some scales if you want to become a lead guitarist, but always try out chords near the beggining of learning how to play guitar. But essentially playing guitar after a while is a piece of piss.

I used that site when I was starting out and occasionally still visit it when I feel like learning something new. It seems to have a pretty solid introduction to learning guitar and gets progressively more difficult.


And yeah, I usually just Google if I'm looking for tabs. They really aren't hard to find. It's more fun to have a go working out songs yourself though!

I've done the google thing for tabs and it seems about anything can be found but I wondered, being that most sites appear to be user supported, how accurate they might be (do people just figure the tabs out be ear or black magic?). Its quite nice how tabs are about the easiest thing in the world to read. I found that about dot com thing before too so isn't that just silly. Eh? On another note, I was wondering how long it takes most people before one can feign proficency on the geetar. Thanks in bountiful bunches folks.

I would also suggest to have the song to listen to if you're going off of a tab, as most don't have the strum pattern.

Depends what style you wanna play. I do classical and I studied with a book called Classical Guitar.
