Koji Kondo's score for the Super Mario Bros. games are fantastic. Some of the coolest melodies I've ever heard. He's a very inventive guy.

I also really enjoy the soundtrack to the first Sonic the Hedgehog game. A lot of those tunes are very memorable.

It's near FF territory but Crono Trigger and Cross have really good music too.

I recently bought the Star occean:Till the end of time OST, great stuff. I realy like the tracks Intreval of freezed time and Moon base..

i like the Zelda OoT music, and i also like the songs that play in the perfect dark levels. oh! and kingdom hearts

I'm surprised that a lot of people likes Motoi Sakuraba. He is VGM god. period. Get his live concert DVD. Its expensive, but its awesomeness to the max x 10!

Although it's an oldie, Shinichi Sakamoto's score for the old Wonderboy games on the Master System (especially Wonderboy III - The Dragon's Trap is music that still remains etched in my mind to this day.

I also like Masaki Iluza's OSTs for Koei's Dynasty Warriors games (Primitive Power from Dynasty Warriors 5 is a particular gem), along with the Japanese and European soundtrack for Sonic CD on the Mega CD (by Naofumi Hataya and Masafumi Ogata), and Yozo Koshiro's soundtrack for Streets of Rage on the Mega Drive.

But the crowning achievement with game music (and my all-time favourite) is still Michiru Yamane's beautifully stunning score for Castlevania Symphony of the Night on the PSX. My Goddess, what a soundtrack!! This isn't just incidental music, but musical heaven.

Haunting, stunning, lucid. Mere words alone cannot describe this soundtrack. The music expertly compliments the action and each piece matches the setting or scene perfectly (Requiem of the Gods - the haunting piece for the Royal Chapel stage, is an example, and is my personal favourite from the soundtrack.)

If anyone here likes good old rock music, they should check out Daisuke Ishiwatari's Guilty Gear franchise. Its awesome!

Next, you should get some of T's Music. Thats also awesome!

The Morrowind soundtrack is quite good although the actual game is boring crap. Also all of the Metal Gear Solid's but I hated the Snake Eater Theme.

My favourite game musics are alot of the songs from Dance Dance Revolution MAX, and the opening theme for Legend of Dragoon.

It might be worth mentioning that I went to great lengths to obtain the Kingdom Hearts original soundtrack, as well. :3

Metal Gear has some good music from it, as it was composed by some film music dude. Resident evil music is OKish too.

Metal gear solid is great and the sonics always have good music.

I really like the soundtracks from Chrono Trigger and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. Also, " Hell March" from Command and Conquer : Red Alert, is really good.

Streetfighter II had some pretty awesome music, and I really liked some of the stuff in the older Castlevania games too.

There's lots of old gameboy and nes games that had music I like, like Tetris and Kirby, but those are more songs I hum to myself every now and then then songs I actually listen to.

The Tetris stuff is classic, and I like the music in SF2, but I forgot Marvel Vs Capcom 2 has great jazzy tunes that I love hearing, cause it sounds like music that wasn't made for the game. I liked the Bust a Groove music too, the Space Channel 5 stuff was alright.

Since the LotR movies were made into games, may I count that? The music in Halo and Halo 2 are great for the games, too. On one of the later levels in Halo 2, You (as the Chief) bust in on this fight, and you're armed with an energy sword. And then the guitar comes in (played by Steve Vai). Maybe I'm the only one, but I get this whole testosterone thing and I try to wade in and kill about two dozen brutes and elites at least once.

I forgot about music from Pump It Up! I like some of the songs in that game mostly because they are all real songs...not made for a videogame.

My personal favorites are Mega Man X and Castlevania SotN. I bought Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha for the soundtrack alone. Streets of Rage and Revenge of Shinobi had the best music that came out of a Genesis game... period.

The entire soundtrack of Chrono Cross still remains as my favorite ^_^ apart from FF.

I wonder why nobody ever mentioned about Kentarou Haneda and Koichi Sugiyama here. They are brilliant composer, imo. But seems like Uematsu hold more popularity in international VGM community.

I listen to a variety of video game music outside of the Final Fantasy series. Legend of Zelda has some classic songs, and the N64 game Mystical Ninja starring Goemon is fantastic. After Uematsu i guess my favoured composer would be Koji Kondo.

My favorite non-FF albums are Chrono Cross, Xenosaga Episode II, and Advent Rising. I'd never heard of most of the albums on here before downloading them - I still don't know what a lot of them are about. =)

I enjoy listening to Ace Combat 4 & 5, Zero doesn't seem that great of a soundtrack to me (maybe it'll grow on me, like 5 did).

I'm particularly fond of the Enthusia: Professional Racing OST. The game sucks, but the music is top notch.

Jesper Kyd's work on the Hitman series and Freedom Fighters is truly remarkable. I love listening to their OSTs.

Then I like listening to some Drum & Bass/Techno stuff like from Shin Contra and Rage Racer/Ridge Racer V music.

So I'm not the only one who played it? Whew. Yeah, seeing Card's name was what got me--the optimistic previews (missed reviews, though) had me a bit excited, as well. At any rate--nice story, decent gameplay, crap graphics, ace music.

Star Ocean 2 and 3's music was also quite enjoyable. So is Dragon Quest VIII's, even if the voice acting (for all three games I just listed) sucked. I rather enjoyed Halo's music, too. There are others I really dig--I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

Anything from Command and Conquer(though Generals wasn't nearly as good in terms of music, or gameplay for that matter). The Xenogears OST is still one of my very favorites, and I was blown away by Baten Kaitos' music, from both games.

Akira Yamaoka's Silent 1 and 2 soundtracks were the freshest pieces of game music I've heard at the time; also his work on Shin Contra and the Bemani games prove his range... sadly the Silent Hill 3 and 4 era was when Akira was starting to sound too derivative.

I liked Metal Gear Solid's soundtrack too... but the sequels had Kojima hiring Harry Gregson-Williams. He gave the series a Hollywood movie feel, which I find inappropriate and annoying. Game music has no taste if it just imitates Hollywood scores. Why do people keep raving about games with movie-like soundtracks? Attempting to sound Hollywood-esque is an old and tired cause.

As for others I liked, ActRaiser, Space Channel 5, Rez, Shadow Hearts series, and the Dragon Quest Symphonic Suites are worth noting.

I'd say my favorite soundtracks would be Chrono Cross and any of the Soul Calibur soundtracks. Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is good too, but I haven't played much of the game. I'd probably appreciate it more if I had.

The best game soundtrack is easy.

The first 2 still make my neck tingle and if anyone's played Colossus nothings better than the score when your holding on to a huge beast...

ICO and all the Xenogears and Xenosaga soundtracks.

I'm pretty blown away with the music I've heard for Ragnarok Online 2. Which is quite surprising due to the name nor soundtrack being released. But the songs that are out there are quite good, and gaining alot of attention too. Having Yoko Kanno involved must have something to do with it. But, since hearing the music I can see why. Hell I'm even going to see if someone has posted them on this site because I'm sick of listening to it streamed off the net. That and Ace combat 5.. I saw Prak mention it on the first page and I loved playing those games so I really want to hear it.

Bill Brown's Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six entries are probably my favourites.
Mike Giacchino's Medal Of Honor's and some of Jeremy Soule's RPGs are often on my iPod too.

What some people my find bizzare is that I listen to Jim Dooley's SOCOM and bought Harry Gregson-Williams Metal Gear Solid entries even though I've not even seen the games in question. I'm just familiar with the composers and their school of work and they're like a lot of the Movie Scores I listen to anyway. I usually obtain scores of games done by Composers who work in Hollywood, Elfman (Fable Theme), Revell (Call Of Duty 2), Badalamenti (Fahrenheit) etc.

I'm unable to listen to synth game music anymore, not when so much is ochestrated. The only exception to that is some of the early Lucasarts Star Wars efforts of Micheal Land, Clint Bajakin and Peter McConnell like Dark Forces, X-Wing and especially Tie Fighter I think I'll always listen to those.

Enthusia ~Professional Racing~ has some good arranged music. Ridge Racer Type 4 Direct Audio was fantastic. And also the just released King Street Sounds - Nite Grooves Tunes For Ridge Racer 7. Amazing stuff. And Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune 2.

Yeah the Xenosaga II Soundtrack is great... but most tracks simply sound
a bit too similar and stuffed, at least for me doood.
It's a real shame the game itself was so, let's say... twisted.
I had really high hopes for it.

halo 2 soundtrack was okay. tried to get Castlevania: Symphony of the Night but its got a codec that my computer doesnt support so it wont play. not much else really, the Ace Combat soundtracks combined are 283 songs and 11.2 hours of total playtime, so its all i really need.

I definiely like Street Fighter 3:2nd impact,It has a cool kick to the soundtrack.I also like Guilty Gear,Need For Speed Underground,2,Most Wanted and Carbon,even though i like it's original songs in Carbon.Dragon Ball Z Budokai Franchise and Mortal Kombat.I got more but that's all.

I like Legend of Heroes ~Sora no Kiseki~ 's soundtracks as well as Guilty Gear, and Ar Tonelico. ^_^ That's about all I can think of too as of current.

- Dragonball Z II (snes) and Dragonball Z (sega). Perhaps it's for more sentimental reason. Me and the boys used to hang out to play these games since all of us are fans of the manga.

- Bust a groove. Butterfly and bust a groove are my fav tunes from this game.
- SF II. Yeah street Fighter. For the ones who live their childhood in the 90's surely remember this game was one of the reasons why you keep coming to the arcade. So the ost was quite memorable.
- Dragonquest VII. Somehow I feel that the tunes sounds like the old games I've played. Not that it's not original but it's feels nostalgic like the old games especially from Nintendo used to sound like this and I haven't hear anything like this in newdays games.
