Another Spanish composer of the so-named 1951 Generation, the Palencia-born Claudio Prieto (1934-2015), who studied under Maderna, Petrassi, Ligeti, Stockhausen and Earle Brown, among others, is featured in this CD containing his work for piano trio. The first of these is the Trio in G (1986), which was especially written in its first version for the Ligeti Trio, unusually composed of a piano, violin and horn. Its second version, for a traditional piano trio, appeared two years later.
The second piece here, the Hymn to the Poet of Sounds was also created in two versions. Initially, it was a one-movement piece and one of numerous pieces written by other Spanish composers in 1988 to pay homage to the recently deceased composer Federico Mompou (1893-1987). The other composers constituted an all-star line-up, composed of Garca Abril, Bernaola, Monsalvatge, Cristbal Hallffter and Toms Marco. All of this music was gathered in an LP that, like the present recording, was performed by the Mompou Trio. Later, Prieto decided to expand his work to three movements, this second version appearing in 1989.

1- TRIO IN G
HYMN TO THE POET OF SOUNDS
2- Song
3- Dance
4- Song

Performed by the Mompou Trio: Joan Lluis Jord (violin), Mariano Melguizo (cello) and Luciano G. Sarmiento (piano) (In later years, Melguiza was replaced by the Bulgarian cellist Dimitar Furnadjiev)
Produced by Arambol in 1989.
