thanks again, Id check it out, his music always intrigued me because it didnt sound as folkloric or typically spaniard as other spanish composers, sounded much more influenced by russian composers, deeper IMO, but Im giving generalizations based on a couple of things Ive heard from him, could be well off (and I wouldnt mind if someone more knoweledgeable on his music corrected me)

Like most Spanish composers born c. 1930, he was an avant-gardist of the Darmstadt school, like Crist�bal Halffter, Claudio Prieto Luis de Pablo, Ram�n Barce and Juan Hidalgo Codorniu. Ant�n Garc�a Abril is more of a traditional Spanish composer, while �ngel Arteaga was sort of an ecclectic. Later composers like Tom�s Marco, Carlos Cruz de Castro and Consuelo D�az might be termed more "post-modern".

seems to me theres still a divide between spanish composers that sound more traditionally spanish like alberto iglesias, illarramendi, and others like roque ba�os, who sound a lot more hollywoodish. Do you think is this a fair comment or am I simplifying things too much?

Among the composers of the black-and-white period, I should mention Jes�s Garc�a Leoz (of Nieves Conde's SURCOS and Berlanga's WELCOME MISTER MARSHALL) and Jes�s Guridi (who scored such noted 1940s movies as Nieves Conde's ANGUISH and Perojo's MARIANELA). Those two, along with Juan Quintero and Manuel Parada, were the approximate equivalent in Spain to the likes of Steiner, Korngold, etc.

The 1950s had the above figures plus Crist�bal Halffter and the Argentinean composer Isidro Maiztegui, who did good work for Bardem and for Klimovsky's MIEDO.

The 1960s generation produced Bernaola, Garc�a Abril, Luis de Pablo, �ngel Arteaga and the underrated Antonio P�rez Olea, who scored, for instance, EL BOSQUE DEL LOBO.

I think anton garcia abril is my favorite spanish composer, loved Don Quijote and fortunata y jacinta (which incidentally I used to watch in the afternoons when I was very little despite finding it boring and a bit depressing but I watched it just for the blonde actress (maribel martin says google)
