I love greenday, i do like linkin park, but i'm not a big fan of the stuff they did with jay z. i also think the crazy frog is an apsolute meanace to socciety. it must be stopped.

well, linkin park was my fave band for years, but i still have to go with green day. their sound is just better and theyve been around forever and theyre still going strong.

I really don't mind either one of them. Their songs are really overplayed, but all around they're not bad. And MCR, TK is right. If it weren't for Green Day MCR would never have come around.

Linkin park are over rated, over distorted and over payed....I only give credit to their skills on the gutair, when you can rarly hear what they are playing....The songs sound fake, and i hate the concept of rap with a "Rock" voice, even though the singer,whatever his name may be, sounds like its synthasised....

I don't dislike them for wearing ties, I admit, Dookie is a good album. I hate Green Day because NOW, which is important! They are terrible, their basslines are awful, American Idiot in particular, Holiday, Bass Solo? What? Its not a bass solo! Maybe they should learn a thing or too from Les Claypool, he'd tell them what a bass solo is. The guitar is all the same, distorted, mainly powerchords and corny and cringingly terrible lyrics. they are overrated, overplayed, sold out shit. (imho)

green day is ok, but other then the songs that actually make charts, thier other songs arent that good. where as with lp almost all thier songs are equally great. i actually find some of thier less popular songs to be better, like papercut, points of authority, and runaway. and its because of they high average level of quality that i find linkin park to be better

all of lp's songs sound the same, and unfortunately that template = gay, and green day has some good songs, but for the most part, they arent much better. im gonna go with gd

There are also some examples of trickier guitar stuff on their latest album, apparently, though I haven't listened to it. I don't like Green Day but admittadely they have some great melodies, especially the newer work. I've heard people play Good Riddance awfully and think they are great at it lots of times.

As for LP I don't like the whole genre they're in but they have a few good songs.

The older Green day stuff is certainly better than the new, although the new stuff is still quite good to listen to, I never really got into LP.

Well, yeah, it does. There's more to playing guitar than the amount of chords you use in a song. In fact, that is a relatively miniscule portion of it. I would argue that learning tons of chords, and using tons of chords in a song is not very hard. Not to mention that I think farting around with crazy lead solos is obnoxious, no matter how much skill it takes. The skill of crafting an enjoyable song is far more important, and you'd be crazy to argue that Green Day doesn't posses it whether you personally like their style or not.

i would say linkin park coz the songs are amazing as in totally! especially one step closer.

thats EXACTLY how it is. I heard them interviewed on radio in sydney after the release of american idiot and they were just full of noncomittal comments. things like 'were not "anti american" but we're "pro american" if you know what I mean.

i would like to point out its not just their message i dont like, i dont like their music either. The fact they are a 4 piece but hide one member from public is also quite suspicious.

I would absolutely love to see your source for this. Not that either one would be a particularly silly thing for Green Day to say (at least not in regards to the Pistols, maybe the part about other bands is silly.)

And I don't know much about London record stores, but around here you would find Green Day albums in the pop/rock section, which is exactly where they belong... right next to the Sex Pistols.
