Hello all, I'm finally back! After taking a very long break from ripping, simply because everything I wanted to do had already been ripped very nicely by the other fabulous folks here, I have returned with a new Smash Ultimate gamerip. Of course, I'm sure most of you are wondering why I did this exactly since so many other people have made rips of this game, and the answer is simple: QUALITY! Smash Ultimate has notoriously 'meh' sound quality, and oftentimes sounds even worse when ripped (even if said rip is lossless) because of the file type and conversion methods. After listening to numerous other rips of the game, found here and elsewhere, I knew something had to be done. Thus, the theme of this rip is "restoration", as I made this one with the intent of creating something as close to an official soundtrack as possible, with much improved sound quality, multiple discs for better organization, and more. The songs were all converted straight from the raw lopus files from the game, and I worked tirelessly to patch up all of the shortcomings of this game's sound quality, along with doing my best to mitigate any additional issues that arose through conversion. Of course, songs like Lifelight (which is horribly compressed) and a few other sticklers will never sound as good as an official soundtrack, but they are much more pleasant to listen to now, and the soundtrack as a whole sounds very nice and cohesive. This rip took a ton of work on both the tagging and the ripping fronts, but I really do feel it was worth the time and effort. I'm not usually one to brag about my work, but I can assure you this is, without a doubt, the clearest and best-sounding rip of Smash Ultimate anywhere as it stands right now. I proudly present:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Enhanced Original Soundtrack

INFORMATION:
163 Tracks, Apx. 10 hours and 20 Minutes, Fully Tagged (Name, number, disc number, artist info, album art (HQ, but weighing in at less than 100 KB), year, etc.), Extensively Edited (Post processing, Lifelight is cut to only play once, volume adjustment, etc.), all songs play twice and then have a 10 second fade-out (standard VGM procedure).
Includes all new songs from Smash Ultimate, including victory themes and new jingles.

Version 3.0 is now live! BLAMMO! Just like that we finally got proper 1:1 conversion tools for Ultimate's file format! I utilized that in this version of the rip, and toned down some of the effects I used previously to compensate for the low quality we dealt with before. This rip is now a lot more in line with my other stuff, and sounds much better than any previous version. The clean rip really shows, and the soundtrack takes on a whole different sound profile because of this. Overall I'd say the album is much more smooth and a LOT more true to the source material while still being immensely improved with my patent-pending 'Special Mix'. I also split the FLAC into five (completely independent) zip files, each around 1GB, for ease of download since so many people were having trouble.

First Four Fighter Packs are Up! + General Fighter Pack Music Info Kapow! I'm back with the three new Persona arrangements released in the newest update. I will continue to add DLC music as released. The plan is to upload the songs from each Fighter Pack as their own zip file (with FLAC and MP3 V0 in one zip because they are so small) as a "Part" of Disc 10. Once all the packs have released, I will reupload the parts as a complete Disc 10 zip file. Stay tuned for the rest. Please note that each update is fully featured (fully tagged, with album art, and it was ripped the exact same way as the base album), and all you have to do is put the songs in the same folder as the rest of the album, or throw it into your music player. Please enjoy!

Info (FLAC): Level 8, 16bit, 48.000kHz

Info (MP3): V0 (variable bitrate; highest quality), 48.000kHz, encoded with LAME Version 3.10

Also note that track order was originally based on the in-game sound player's order, but I made some changes where I saw fit.

I want to give special thanks to my personal friends, who gave me tons of input and served as my guinea pigs who listened to various versions of the rip to help me decide on the best one, and to !!!!! and 3DMAN, who inspired this (and many of my other rips). Whether they actually told me anything or not (they didn't, lol), I learned a LOT from listening to and examining their rips, and their stuff always seems to lead me to technology and programs that I can use to make my rips as great as they can possibly be.

:D As always, enjoy and play it loud! Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, advice, or if anything is wrong with the upload. :D

Awesome, thank you! I'm just wondering: why are the tracks 24-bit? Is there any reason you chose that over 16-bit?

Thank you for this work! That being said, Nintendo should just release the official soundtrack already, if only to put an end to the discussions of "whose rip is better".

Oh shoot, I was gonna mention this above. When changing the lopus to wav, when I used 16-bit it introduced some additional artifacting (go figure, this is one of the "conversion issues" I mentioned above), but using 24-bit stopped this issue for whatever reason. So, when I went to convert to FLAC, I kept it at 24-bit in order to ensure it was true lossless from the wav.

I agree with this so much. I just want that to get true HQ versions of some of the worse-off songs (Lifelight). Also peace of mind, because I can barely listen to one of my own rips without overanalyzing it and worrying it's not good enough lol. That said I've been jamming out to this a lot since I finished it and am pretty happy with this one.

So glad some other people are enjoying it too!

Looking forward to giving this a listen. Not really a fan of the way you organized the track order, but I could always just re-order it to fit my preferences.

So with making the files 24-bit, does that prevent any of the hissing found in the other conversions that are around? (especially noticeable on tracks with strings and chorus) Is that what you meant by artifacting?

Awesome job! Sounds much clearer than previous rips. But is it just me or don't you think the overall volume is a bit low? I don't want to complain here, but this was the first thing I noticed haha. Thank you :)

I was more referring to crackling/tearing/scratchiness, that kind of artifacting, but all the stuff I did combined is what makes it clearer and makes the hissing basically nonexistent.

The volume in-game and in the raw files is cranked waaaay up, so when I did the volume adjusting it made everything quite a bit quieter to better match other CDs and soundtracks. Yes, it is definitely much quieter than other rips, but this was done to get more even volume across all tracks. EDIT: Working on a volume increase now.
Thanks!

Sorry, the files are too huge to upload multiple times, and most people prefer MEGA. Do you have an issue with MEGA not working? Try using Chrome or another browser if so.

ALSO:
Thank you so much for all of your positive feedback! I am currently working on a version 1.1, with a volume bump. Will upload and replace the links when that's done!

Huh. I've never used Megadownloader, try just downloading by clicking the big red "Download" button on the page. It will download through MEGA first, and then should give you a prompt asking where you want to download the file to like Mediafire does.

This is pretty good not gonna lie, personally I'm not a fan of the weird reverb effect, but that's just my opinion. Also this seems to be missing the new Luigi's Mansion remix. Nice job!

Alright so version 1.1 is almost done, it will be up tomorrow morning. I went and made every song almost as loud as it can be (without clipping and while retaining the quality of the current rip). Some songs are much louder now, some are not a whole lot louder because of weird noise spikes preventing them from being louder without clipping. They're a bit less even now in terms of volume, but overall I think this change is definitely for the better. In this new version I will also include the missing Luigi's Mansion remix. Keep an eye out for it!

If you are specifically referring to Lifelight, that song has a TON of reverb (in the raw files I mean), but you usually can't hear it that well because of compression. It's simply easier to hear when the song was cleaned up by me.

As for the Luigi's Mansion track, I just fixed it and it will be included in version 1.1. Can't believe I missed that!

Are you talking about "Underground Theme - Super Mario Land"? If so, that one (which I love btw) is actually from Brawl. You can find it on one of the many Brawl rips floating around here. Furthermore, the "Ryu Stage" remix is from Smash 4, and it has also been ripped on here before. It may be a bit trickier to find, since it was from DLC, but ask around on some of the Smash 4 threads and I'm sure they'll gladly help point you in the right direction there.

Glad you're both enjoying my rip, too!

I was more referring to the "echoy" effect in most songs. For example, Now or Never! sounds a bit different than the original file. But that's just a pet peeve for me.

I kind of feel that all the tracks should be at the same volume. It would sound strange to have a few songs from the same rip be at different volumes, you feel?
But, if the intent is to merge with sittingonclouds' rip, then maybe having your few louder songs stay louder would make them the same level as his rips. Not sure what the best option here would be tbh lol

A few notes on this. First thing, this is a standalone project that was not made to be merged with other rips. If someone wants to use this as part of some big Smash music collection, I would hope they would be chivalrous enough to ask me for permission first and credit me on the finished piece. I trust most of you guys here though which is why I'm pretty lax on things like ads and upload protection.

On the topic of volume, most albums have a bit of fluctuation in volume; it's perfectly normal. After listening to some more of it, nothing seems out of place volume-wise, it's all still pretty balanced, I just wanted to report on what I did and how it went. It should be fine, and most people will never even notice the slight differences in some songs because of the way percieved loudness works. Have no fear, I think the changes I made are just fine, and I am sure you will too!

Alrighty, so version 1.1 is live. Added the Luigi's Mansion song I missed, made the volume much better and just about as loud as this rip will ever be without entering clipping and serious altering territory. The MP3 version has a link up right now, it actually has been up since this morning, and the FLAC version has uploaded, but I'm going to take it down and reupload it as multiple parts since the file is so dang big. Sooo... check out the new MP3 version while you wait, or just sit tight for the new FLAC version to be uploaded. It'll probably be done about six or seven hours from posting this, and I'll link it as soon as I get home. :) Hopefully this is the last reupload I'll have to do for a while lol

Please let me know if there are any issues. Again, thanks for your appreciation and kind words, and I hope everyone enjoys the newest (final...hopefully) version of the rip!

Thanks so much for posting this! Great work! I may be mistaken but I think there are a few tracks missing here from LoZ... The Breath of the Wild track that plays outside of the final dungeon, one of the earlier rips on this site posted just all the raw tracks and the name they had for it was "c38_bow_hyrulejyou_outside", there is also "Calamity Ganon Battle - Second Form", the new "Gerudo Valley" as well as the new Ocarina of Time Medley. I have these unlocked my Ultimate game (with the exception of the first one I called out). I'm pretty sure none of these are from Smash 4.

The first two, the BotW songs, are straight from that game, and can be found on the BotW rips floating around on here. Nice work you've done, and a bit shameful that another user would just jack your remaster, but not much to be done if they get the presentation done well.

Do you have any background in audio engineering, and what exactly did you do to the tracks if I could ask?

I'll also shamefully ask if you can pack everything that is unique to the Smash Ultimate main theme and post that as an individual pack, for those that already have/don't want the music from the other franchises and just want the smash songs.

oh, and the font used in the Smash Ultimate logo (particularly the "ULTIMATE" part) is Serpentine D Bold, if you wanted to do an album art with the actual logo in it, and add "Original Soundtrack" to it and have it matching or some such stuff, as this seems like a good rip, so IMO it should have good album art to match and make it the best it can be.

Thanks for the comments!

So, a few things.

First one, the deal with the other user who "jacked" my rip was actually just a BIG misunderstanding on everyone's part, I want to make sure they don't get any negative rep from that, as it was just a mistake :) (and, assuming they kept their word, they refrained from using it like they promised).

Second thing, no, I have no formal background in audio engineering, but I am a musician with a very picky ear, and have been working on gamerips and audio projects for around six years now! I actually did quite a few rips, recordings, and (attempted) masterings (lol) before I did anything that I put up on these forums. I have worked on tons of projects of my own, and have also listened to dozens upon dozens of gamerips and official soundtracks and learned a lot from those. I have definitely improved my rips and refined my techniques greatly over the years, thanks in no small part to the loads of research and tinkering I have done over that span of time. As for what I did, I'll have to kindly reply that a magician never reveals his own tricks ;).

I hate to be a pain, but I honestly don't see much merit in uploading only the Smash Ultimate original tracks, especially since I have pretty limited upload space, so I'll just recommend downloading the whole soundtrack, and moving the original pieces and themes to their own folder.

As for the album art, I used a different font on purpose, because most official game soundtracks have some other font. I think it looks pretty classy and official, which is totally what I was going for. Thanks for the tip though, I'll keep that in mind in case I ever want to do something with that font!

Thanks again for checking out my rip!

When I got my start, nobody (here) would tell me anything. Part of the fun of this process for me was learning new things. I never had any of that knowledge handed to me, and I feel that was for the better. It's satisfying to discover things like this for yourself, and allowing people to carve their own path and decide the way they want to do things (i.e. what they think sounds best) allows for people to have their own journey like mine and develop new methods that could likely, with time, become even better than what I have done. People who truly want to follow in the footsteps of any great rippers here will find a way to do so on their own, I'm sure of it, and will learn everything they need to know with time and research. No disrespect intended, but I am going to hold my word.

SURPRISE! :D
Version 2.0 is now live! I said I wouldn't, but I decided to make (yet another) new rip of Smash Ultimate to improve this upload even more! This is a complete re-rip, from scratch, and, while nobody specifically asked for it, it is based on everyone's feedback and small changes I wanted to make.
New features of this version include:
* Slightly better volume overall
* Better clarity of sound
* Removal of the somewhat controversial reverb from the previous versions
* A HUGE decrease in the FLAC filesize (I figured out how to make the files 16-bit while retaining the same quality as before)
* ...And Various minor changes of my own decision
All this, while retaining the same high quality and characteristics of the previous versions.
I hope everyone enjoys the newest version of the album, and also want to thank everyone for their feedback!

I don't know if it would make that much of a difference, but anyway, here's the changelog:

LAME 3.100 October 13 2017

Rogrio Brito
- Don't include the debian directory as one that is needed during builds. Patch taken from Debian's packaging of lame.
- Resurrect Owen Taylor's code dated from 97-11-3 to properly deal with GTK1. This was transplanted back from aclocal.m4 with a patch provided by Andres Mejia. This change makes it easy to regenerate autotools' files with a simple invocation of autoconf -vfi.
- Fix possible race condition causing build failures in libmp3lame. Discovered in automated builds by the Debian project with patch provided by Andres Mejia.

Robert Hegemann
- Improved detection of MPEG audio data in RIFF WAVE files. Tracker item [ 3545112 ] Invalid sampling detection
- New switch --gain <decibel>, range -20.0 to +12.0, a more convenient way to apply Gain adjustment in decibels, than the use of --scale <factor>.
- Fix for tracker item [ 3558466 ] Bug in path handling
- Fix for tracker item [ 3567844 ] problem with Tag genre
- Fix for tracker item [ 3565659 ] no progress indication with pipe input
- Fix for tracker item [ 3544957 ] scale (empty) silent encode without warning

Oh, I didn't even realize that had released. As Chrono said, though, I doubt it would make much of a difference. I'll look into this for future rips, however. Plus, if anyone feels the need, they can always download the FLAC rip and convert it themselves if they prefer to do that. Thanks for the heads up!

Sounds like you didn't "figure out" anything then. You just decided to change the bit depth from 24 to 16 when converting. :P Didn't you say that introduced artifacting btw?

So, did you use SoX? I hope you used SoX to downsample, as that is the best way to downsample audio.

Initially (before the first versions of the album), I converted the lopus files to 16-bit wav, which introduced artifacting for some reason. Thus, I then tried 24-bit wav which solved the problem. The problems stemmed from the initial lopus to wav conversion. On this newest version of the album, I tried converting the lopus to 24-bit wav files then to 16-bit FLAC, which worked just fine, and didn't damage any of the sound quality, so I uploaded it that way instead. Also keep in mind the source files are 16-bit to begin with, so it's not like anything was lost in the conversion.

What is SoX?

The preferred way to downsample audio. 24-bit to 16-bit, 96 kHz to 48kHz, etc. It should be noted that even though you can downsample 48kHz to 44.1 kHz, you always want to downsample to a common multiple. In the case of 96 to 48, that's half. 192 to 48 would be 1/4, and just as fine.

First of all, I want to say thank you. This was really impressive and it's really appreciated. But was wondering if I could get some help, or if you know what's going on with the download. Ill outline all the important information:

I'm running macOS mojave (most up to date as of writing this)
I have my own MEGA account (and have had it for a while)
I opted to download your 2-part FLAC .zip files

First I did a straight download and when extracting, I received a warning saying that part 2 was incomplete. I decided to import your files to my MEGA and try from there, and I got the same warning. I was able to get past the warning dialogue and "extract anyway" both times, and both times I was able to extract all the files through 8-16 Noisy Notebook.

Just wondering if you could maybe re-upload the second part? or if you or anyone else reading this comment knows what could have happened otherwise?
Anyway, thanks again for everything!

I have a feeling it might be an issue with the MAC, but I am looking into this right now. I just re-extracted my personal copy of the files that was already on my hard drive, and they extracted fine. However, I am redownloading the files myself now, and will test them later today to see if something went wrong during the upload process. Depending on what happens I may reupload with smaller parts, as even the 2.5 GB parts seem to be giving people a lot of trouble...

In the meantime, make sure you highlight both parts and then right click to extract them at the same time, as I forget to do that sometimes and that can mess things up. Also try redownloading both parts again to check, and let me know what happens.

Sorry for your trouble, but thanks for letting me know.

Yeah, I definitely made sure to check that they were working as being extracted together as one.
If you don't discover any issues with the upload, if you don't mind re-upping, could it be possible to just split the upload into two actual separate zips (not two-halves of one)?

Of course that is, if you don't have any problems with that. It's totally cool that you did all this anyway.
Thanks again, KH7!

Hmm, I just redownloaded and extracted the files and everything seems fine. I may reupload eventually, but I have been eating up a lot of bandwidth with uploading and downloading stuff lately, so I'll probably wait on that. For now, I would just say try on a different computer if you can (PC), redownload the files, and/or use 7-zip to extract the files (if you were previously using something else). If all else fails, just download the mp3 version in the meantime. Sorry for the hassle, but nobody else has really had any problems with this most recent upload, so I'm not likely to re-up it anytime soon. Thanks for understanding.

no problem, I'll try to get to a PC when I can! Thanks for checking on that anyway. I'll let you know what happens over in Windows as well.

For anyone reading this, the tools used to rip the audio from Smash Ultimate has been improved to allow for direct decoding of the audio! The soundtrack has been ripped and enhanced similar to what Kirbyhammer7 has done and is being hosted on Google Drive. Check it out here! https://www.reddit.com/r/SmashBrosUltimate/comments/am77l5/super_smash_bros_anthology_complete_enhanced/

Awesome! I just a acquired the tools for the 1:1 conversion for myself, and am working on a version 3.0 that will utilize that as we speak! Super excited!!

EDIT: Ooohhh boy this is niiiiiice sounding. Uploading now, will be linked and ready tomorrow!

Also v3.0 is done uploading but I'm away from home and have been incredibly busy, so I'll have to link it later.

I also split the FLAC into five (completely independent) zip files, each around 1GB, for ease of download since so many people were having trouble downloading!

There were times where I felt like the older versions of the album were a bit too harsh, due to the artifacting and other issues I had with the previous conversion tools, so overall this version is a lot easier on the ears and a heck of a lot cleaner than anything previously possible. I put out this version of the rip EXTREMELY quickly, especially considering the new plugin used to convert this was released yesterday, so I may still make more changes down the line, but I am pretty dang happy with this as-is and might keep it this way for quite some time. Only time will tell, and I've said I wouldn't change it before and... well you see what happened haha.

Enjoy guys!

I first picked this up randomly because it happened to be on the front page and some friends had recently been talking about the game

but I have to ask

What is the story behind these credits? This roster reads like someone went door to door asking every great composer in Japanese vgm history to contribute a track and half of them agreed.

Haha definitely. Sakurai, the director of the game, has had crazy connections with all kinds of composers since Brawl on the Wii really. He essentially did what you said; he apparently emailed a bunch of people a list of songs they could remix and let them choose if they wanted to and what songs they wanted to do if they did decide to participate. It's glorious, isn't it? There are some noticeable omissions (For example, where is Shogo Sakai?), but the roster is impressive to be sure.

I must say, as a relative newcomer, that this forum is amazing – it's more difficult to not find a particular VG OST than actually finding a good rip of one, and here is a flagrant example of ffshrine's greatness!

kirbyhammer7

Persona Music is Up! + General Fighter Pack Music Info:
Kapow!

Could you add the Hero's victory theme? It's the only "new" DQ theme unfortunately since the others aren't remixes.

I've been out of town for a few days now, with no service for any of my devices, so apologies for my hiatus! Also... a new Smash character without any new music?! What a huge bummer! I'll still upload the victory theme in just a couple minutes, however, and the rest of the DLC packs will be handled as planned. I recently got a new PC also and have been in the process of trying to get all my old ripping programs and things back in action with varying degrees of success (lol). Major bummer, but thanks for the heads up!

EDIT: Dragon Quest Hero Victory Theme is up! It is track number 4 on the DLC disc (disc 10), so it should be readily available to add to the rest of the album, just like everything else. That's all for now folks!

I was a little concerned, after the Banjo stuff, that people weren't really following this thread anymore for whatever reason, so I'm glad everyone is happy with this update and that I was not wrong in my assumption that people were in fact still listening. Op, I was just heading here to reply to why it was only the remixes, looks like c4dude3 beat me too it (Thanks BTW).

Well, I COULD rip the other tracks too, as I have access to them, but Smash Ultimate's sound quality isn't exactly the greatest thing, and most (if not all) of the songs from other games (all the non-remixes included in Smash) can be found on other official soundtracks or gamerips right here on the forums. Since I only included the remixes in the original (Non-fighters pass) album, and that's how most rips of Smash games are (see !!!!!'s Nexus and his Smash Music Collection), I plan to keep it that way for this rip. I know that this isn't super convenient for some people, but if I add the non-remixed SNK music, soon people will be asking for all the non-remixed music from Ultimate and that is a project I definitely don't have time for (lol), and one that logistically doesn't make any sense because those songs can be found elsewhere in their original state. Basically, just poke around the threads here, and I'm sure you can find the songs you're looking for on a gamerip/ost/osv from the source game. Let me know if you need anything else though, as I am always happy to help. :)

It's still missing the SNK tracks but he's working on them. The sound quality of the other remixes are also a bit better.
