Composer's Biography and Reputation
Shiro Sagisu mostly known for his collaborations with infamous anime director Hideaki Anno (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hideaki_Anno) and his soundtracks for Studio Pierrot (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierrot_(company))'s popular shōnen anime series Bleach (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_(TV_series)). He is a Japanese music producer and composer born in August 29, 1957 with a career now exceeding 40 years. In Japan he is also famous for his works with big J-pop stars like May'n (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May%27n), Misia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misia), Yoko Takahashi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoko_Takahashi), Megumi Hayashibara (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megumi_Hayashibara), Nagi Yanagi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nagi_Yanagi) and Iori Nomizu (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iori_Nomizu).
Primary Artistic Style Progression
In his music he is known for consistent high quality production, his wide, rich and often times chaotic choir which includes several deep-voiced performers that gives it that distinctive "Sagisu" sound which is present to most of Shiro Sagisu's works in the last 12 years making its first appearances initially in a 2006 South Korean fantasy film called "The Restless (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Restless_(2006_film))" specifically in the tracks "To The End (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J80moApmU7Q)" and "The Final Reckoning (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slEWo-mS5VI)" and later refining that sound in "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion:_1.0_You_Are_(Not)_Alone)" -best exemplified in the track "Angel of Doom (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Wh8DgWDts)"- which came out the following year and quite literally defined Shiro Sagisu's music from that point onwards, and in the last decade he has mostly built upon this style showing only some experimentation with electric guitars, R&B, electro along with mixing that well-defined style with J-pop music featured in his works with aforementioned J-pop Stars.
Critical and Commercial Success
In his 40 year long career his most critically acclaimed work is the soundtrack for "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion:_2.0_You_Can_(Not)_Advance)" winning the Tokyo Anime Award (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Anime_Award) for Best Music in 2010. The soundtrack in "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion:_2.0_You_Can_(Not)_Advance)" beyond being his most critically acclaimed work is also his most commercially successful album release peaking at number 8 in the Oricon album charts and charting for a total of 16 weeks.
Musical Experimentation
Some of his more experimental works include first and foremost the original "Neon Genesis Evangelion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion)" soundtrack, the anime series albums for Bleach (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_(TV_series)), the music for critical and commercial failure anime "Black Bullet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Bullet)", his side-projects carrying "Shiro's Songbook (https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHIRO%27S_SONGBOOK)" in their names -that feature new renditions for many of his classics along with original music featuring both Orchestral and Jazz genres while also having a lot more creative freedom due to Shiro Sagisu having full creative control on those projects- and finally pretty much most of his music from the 70s, 80s and 90s since at that time he hadn't settled down to a specific style and was trying out many different genres, sounds and themes.
Information Related to the Thread and its Progress
This thread is a work in progress and everything on it is subject of change, this is just a draft to use as a base for what i want the final version of the thread to be. The goal of this thread is to house every bit of music Shiro Sagisu has created and to also introduce new people to his music. The final version of the thread is going to be similar to Vinphonic's "The Legacy of Japanese Composers (Thread 219666)" in style, essentially splitting Shiro Sagisu's music into a few categories based on his artistic style progression. The main difference is going to be however that this thread is also going to strongly focus on collecting all of Shiro Sagisu's music in the highest quality possible, an endeavor for which i will need your help! I already possess a huge collection of Shiro Sagisu's music but there is a lot to improve on it since many of my albums are in 320kbps .mp3 format.
In this first rendition of the Shiro Sagisu Ultimate Thread i will start off by sharing some albums that don't have their own dedicated threads on this forum with the goal of gathering interest from the community and to also receive feedback on how i should go about updating the thread from here. This is my first major attempt at file sharing, i will be using Mega.nz (https://mega.nz/) for all my uploads due to its download speed and ease of use, i would greatly appreciate any help from veteran forum members in this, regarding any information i should know on the subjects of forum rules and file sharing. In order for this thread to work i will need everyone's contributions, i will need help with descriptions of Shiro Sagisu's older music due to me not having watched many of those older anime and not having the context of the music featured in them while also due to me being unfamiliar with that style of music as well. Below i will post a full list of my upcoming uploads with their audio quality and i will really appreciate it if any of you either share higher quality versions of the albums i'll upload in mp3 320kbps or provide me with any of Shiro Sagisu's music i might miss. Overall one of Sagisu's better works, shame it is wasted on an underwhelming movie.

Sagisu's music for the Berserk movies is amongst his best works, if you're familiar with the soundtrack of the first movie you will enjoy these suites for how well they flow and the way they can retell the movie's story through music, if you're not familiar with the movies' original soundtracks i'd recommend starting from those since if you hear a song you like in the suites you'll have a hard time finding out its name.

This soundtrack is the strongest aspect of Black Bullet, once again it's a shame Shiro Sagisu had to work on a mass produced Otaku-bait Visual Novel Adaptation. The soundtrack adds a lot to the scenes in the anime, at least judging from the contents of this album it appears Sagisu had some creative freedom and has experimented with many tracks. We have the usual Sagisu choir mixed in electro rhythms and themes. This one is hit or miss(i guess they never miss huh) for most people so just give a try to the highlights below and see if it clicks for you.

Definitely in need of assistance with this one. Mastering is good with this one so 260kbps isn't as terrible as it sounds. Getting a FLAC version of this album would be great however. I haven't watched KareKano yet(have it on "to watch list" for years) and i don't know the context of these songs so it's hard to say a lot. The soundtrack is definitely beautiful, it features some of my favorite orchestral arrangements. The feeling in this one is generally upbeat, there are some melodramatic tracks too.

I'll also recommend 14th track even tho it doesn't feature Shiro Sagisu, it still is a nice catchy tune.

Not much to say on this one, only 18th track (Komm, susser Tod) features Shiro Sagisu, and as of writing this i realized that for whatever reason the 18th track is missing from my folder, so i guess this one's unrelated but might as well as share it for anyone interested. Reminiscent of earlier Bleach soundtracks, has an eerie, spooky vibe. It is an interesting application of Sagisu's jazz experimentation -featured in the Shiro's Songbook albums- on an anime series, it works surprisingly well, containing many memorable tracks and expressing a wide array of emotions.

While i haven't seen the series which this soundtrack originates from, i will strongly recommend this album. It's biggest strength is the orchestral arrangements. Absolutely wonderful compositions in this one, it will surely induce some strong positive emotions even to the un-trained Sagisu listener(heh). The tracks below are the ones i consider most colorful from this album, anyone familiar with Sagisu's other works might recognize a couple references (ex. Bleach).

Collaborative work of Shiro Sagisu and Yoko Takahashi. Yoko's most famous work being "A cruel angel's thesis" sets a good example for her overall performance as a vocalist. Her performance on this album is consistently extraordinary, she truly adds to the already powerful masterpiece "Who Will Know", a track originally featured in Hideaki Anno's "Shin Godzilla (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Godzilla)" movie playing during its 2nd trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNwORVbNN-s)(goosebumps) and climax has been taken to new heights with the masterful performance of Yoko Takahashi. "Who Will Know - Furusato" is personally my favorite in this album, and one of my all-time favorites from Shiro Sagisu in general. As for the 1st track "Tensions - Welcome to the stage" it features a very familiar tune which is taken far and beyond thanks to a combination of Sagisu's and Takahashi's respective performances. There also exists a fan-made iteration of "Who will know" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQxMi-0bjpc) that is essentially a mash-up of 2 of the "Who will know" versions that exist in this album along with the other 2 versions from the "Shin Godzilla Music Collection" album. I'd say the proper order of listening to the versions of this song is "Who Will Know - Tragedy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrXTS10h2WI)" from "Shin Godzilla Music Collection" -> Tracks 02-04 from this album -> "Who Will Know - Lazarus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQxMi-0bjpc)".

Primary Artistic Style Progression
In his music he is known for consistent high quality production, his wide, rich and often times chaotic choir which includes several deep-voiced performers that gives it that distinctive "Sagisu" sound which is present to most of Shiro Sagisu's works in the last 12 years making its first appearances initially in a 2006 South Korean fantasy film called "The Restless (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Restless_(2006_film))" specifically in the tracks "To The End (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J80moApmU7Q)" and "The Final Reckoning (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slEWo-mS5VI)" and later refining that sound in "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion:_1.0_You_Are_(Not)_Alone)" -best exemplified in the track "Angel of Doom (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9Wh8DgWDts)"- which came out the following year and quite literally defined Shiro Sagisu's music from that point onwards, and in the last decade he has mostly built upon this style showing only some experimentation with electric guitars, R&B, electro along with mixing that well-defined style with J-pop music featured in his works with aforementioned J-pop Stars.
Critical and Commercial Success
In his 40 year long career his most critically acclaimed work is the soundtrack for "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion:_2.0_You_Can_(Not)_Advance)" winning the Tokyo Anime Award (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Anime_Award) for Best Music in 2010. The soundtrack in "Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion:_2.0_You_Can_(Not)_Advance)" beyond being his most critically acclaimed work is also his most commercially successful album release peaking at number 8 in the Oricon album charts and charting for a total of 16 weeks.
Musical Experimentation
Some of his more experimental works include first and foremost the original "Neon Genesis Evangelion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neon_Genesis_Evangelion)" soundtrack, the anime series albums for Bleach (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleach_(TV_series)), the music for critical and commercial failure anime "Black Bullet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Bullet)", his side-projects carrying "Shiro's Songbook (https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHIRO%27S_SONGBOOK)" in their names -that feature new renditions for many of his classics along with original music featuring both Orchestral and Jazz genres while also having a lot more creative freedom due to Shiro Sagisu having full creative control on those projects- and finally pretty much most of his music from the 70s, 80s and 90s since at that time he hadn't settled down to a specific style and was trying out many different genres, sounds and themes.
Information Related to the Thread and its Progress
This thread is a work in progress and everything on it is subject of change, this is just a draft to use as a base for what i want the final version of the thread to be. The goal of this thread is to house every bit of music Shiro Sagisu has created and to also introduce new people to his music. The final version of the thread is going to be similar to Vinphonic's "The Legacy of Japanese Composers (Thread 219666)" in style, essentially splitting Shiro Sagisu's music into a few categories based on his artistic style progression. The main difference is going to be however that this thread is also going to strongly focus on collecting all of Shiro Sagisu's music in the highest quality possible, an endeavor for which i will need your help! I already possess a huge collection of Shiro Sagisu's music but there is a lot to improve on it since many of my albums are in 320kbps .mp3 format.
In this first rendition of the Shiro Sagisu Ultimate Thread i will start off by sharing some albums that don't have their own dedicated threads on this forum with the goal of gathering interest from the community and to also receive feedback on how i should go about updating the thread from here. This is my first major attempt at file sharing, i will be using Mega.nz (https://mega.nz/) for all my uploads due to its download speed and ease of use, i would greatly appreciate any help from veteran forum members in this, regarding any information i should know on the subjects of forum rules and file sharing. Sagisu's music for the Berserk movies is amongst his best works, if you're familiar with the soundtrack of the first movie you will enjoy these suites for how well they flow and the way they can retell the movie's story through music, if you're not familiar with the movies' original soundtracks i'd recommend starting from those since if you hear a song you like in the suites you'll have a hard time finding out its name.

This soundtrack is the strongest aspect of Black Bullet, once again it's a shame Shiro Sagisu had to work on a mass produced Otaku-bait Visual Novel Adaptation. The soundtrack adds a lot to the scenes in the anime, at least judging from the contents of this album it appears Sagisu had some creative freedom and has experimented with many tracks. We have the usual Sagisu choir mixed in electro rhythms and themes. This one is hit or miss(i guess they never miss huh) for most people so just give a try to the highlights below and see if it clicks for you.

Definitely in need of assistance with this one. Mastering is good with this one so 260kbps isn't as terrible as it sounds. Getting a FLAC version of this album would be great however. I haven't watched KareKano yet(have it on "to watch list" for years) and i don't know the context of these songs so it's hard to say a lot. The soundtrack is definitely beautiful, it features some of my favorite orchestral arrangements. The feeling in this one is generally upbeat, there are some melodramatic tracks too.

Absolutely wonderful compositions in this one, it will surely induce some strong positive emotions even to the un-trained Sagisu listener(heh). Collaborative work of Shiro Sagisu and Yoko Takahashi. Yoko's most famous work being "A cruel angel's thesis" sets a good example for her overall performance as a vocalist. Her performance on this album is consistently extraordinary, she truly adds to the already powerful masterpiece "Who Will Know", a track originally featured in Hideaki Anno's "Shin Godzilla (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_Godzilla)" movie playing during its 2nd trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNwORVbNN-s)(goosebumps) and climax has been taken to new heights with the masterful performance of Yoko Takahashi. "Who Will Know - Furusato" is personally my favorite in this album, and one of my all-time favorites from Shiro Sagisu in general. As for the 1st track "Tensions - Welcome to the stage" it features a very familiar tune which is taken far and beyond thanks to a combination of Sagisu's and Takahashi's respective performances. There also exists a fan-made iteration of "Who will know" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQxMi-0bjpc) that is essentially a mash-up of 2 of the "Who will know" versions that exist in this album along with the other 2 versions from the "Shin Godzilla Music Collection" album. I'd say the proper order of listening to the versions of this song is "Who Will Know - Tragedy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrXTS10h2WI)" from "Shin Godzilla Music Collection" -> Tracks 02-04 from this album -> "Who Will Know - Lazarus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQxMi-0bjpc)".
