This is, in my opinion, the best PlayStation 1 (PSX) OST in existence!

The full name of the game is 70's ROBOT ANIME GEPPY-X THE SUPER BOOSTED ARMOR. Geppy-X is a 4CDs behemoth horizontal shoot 'em up for Shodai PlayStation (PSX, PS1), made by aroma (only game by them as far as I know) in 1999. Like the name says, the whole game is a pastische of 70s robot anime (Mazinger Z, Getter Robo...) with aestethics that match. However, as a game it has a few faults that hamper it to be a true classic, but its OST is legendary. The main problem of Geppy is that I have no idea what's the hitbox of the robot you control is. Damn Geppy-X is just too big for a shmup character, you just can't avoid taking damage, which is truly a bad thing in a shmup game. Also, you can change Geppy into other forms, which are more-or-less useless... For same reason, and the other forms attacks are kinda useless, too. Tsk, tsk, and that's not even the worst thing. The worst thing must be the fact that Geppy has THREE functions on a same button! If you smash the button like Takahashi-meijin, Geppy will shoot, if you hold the button Geppy will rapid shoot - sounds good still, but if you hold the button a while longer, Geppy will begin to load Geppy-X Beam, while you are absolutely vulnerable! I say... what the heck? Why on earth they put three actions on a same button! There are lots of buttons you don't use at all on the controller in the game! (yes, you can change the controls, but the attack button always has these three functions). So, with these two faults, I will say it now: as a shmup, Geppy-X is a dead horse, useless lump of CDs. But as 70s robot anime aesthetics go, Geppy-X is just brilliant! The main charm of Geppy is how it emulates a 70s robot anime: it has OP and ED (with karaoke), three heroes with vehicles that combine into robot, a main bad guy with lackeys, lots of Uchuu (Space)-beasts, and all the other tropes. But the main meat must be the soundtrack, oh, the soundtrack!

Soundtrack of Geppy-X is just divine, it has such artists as Sasaki Isao, Kageyama Hironobu (you know, CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA..) and even MIO! Every stage has a vocal song, every mini-boss has a vocal song, and every boss battle has a vocal song. Vocal songs galore! My absolute favourite is the theme of Stage 4, Kenran-taru Gyakushuu no Kyuuseishu (Messiah of the Dazzling Counter-attack) by MIO. It's also the only song in my "Uta to Ongaku-shuu" that loops, not just because it's just so awesome (and it was the only looping song in the OST as well, go figure). And yes, I know the song sounds a bit weird, but I tried to edit it a bit so it wouldn't stop so abruptly as in the OST (bad rip I guess). Other insta-classics are "Geppy-X no Uta" by Sasaki Isao and of course it's "contemporary" version Geppy-X '99 - last boss theme - by Kageyama Hironobu. For some reason, it also has Tshaikovski's famous composition (which name I can't remember) from "Hakuchou no Mizu'umi" (The Swan Lake) and another classical composition by.. someone. If you recognize it, please tell me so I can update the OST accordingly. So, my Uta to Ongaku-shuu is simply put a gamerip/OST hybrid with game short versions and then full album versions, with some additional tracks. And yes, these are all the songs in the game, other files were just voices from the videos, and there are a few hundred of them.

Geppy-X game may be a dead horse, a relic of ancient past, but it's also a true classic due its soundtrack. Too bad the controls and hitbox problems make it nigh-useless as a shmup. It's a real pity, because it had all the potential to be one of the best. If you enjoy weird shmups, there is an another game, called Meta Ph. List Gamma X 2097 (yes, Meta Ph. List Gamma X 2097, these names are downright awesome) which a vertical shmup that sucks like heck as a game, but as art it is very interesting. Even more so, when I tell it has TWO CDs. I find it fascinating, as it's one of the few two CDs shmup for PSX... afaik, only Chou-jikuu Yousai Macross: Ai Oboeteimasu ka has two CDs as well. But the king is Geppy-X with 4CDs. Geppy-X, you will be forgotten, yet remembered. Geppy-X, seriously, stay dead, but leave the soundtrack for the generations come!
