I think you will find this is beyond simply interesting. When this first appeared on LP in my college days, the Chicago Classical FM station played it over and over by request. This music conjured another time, a candle lit atmosphere, voices echoing off stone walls in the darkness; a Christmas as it might have once been even before Charles Dickens invented it. This is the sound of a time lost hundreds of years ago... it remains my favorite recording of the season.

I have adored this recording since I first found it when it first came out. It's just NOT CHRISTMAS without it. Evoking the ambience of the medieval church and nobleman's hall, so sit next to a roaring fire, light the candles, savor some mulled wine or cider, and let your mind take you back. It's as close as most people will ever get � unless you cosplay or join the SCA.

All sent... and as the Countess has written, this recording is simply and distinctively mesmerizing. Sit quietly in the dark and allow the music to take you far, far away.

When it was an LP in the 70s it was very much given away as a gift. And when it first appeared as a CD, I was overjoyed. It ain't Bing Crosby singing White Christmas-
and it is more than rehashed religious ditties- the echoing voices of song and chant and old readings truly transport you to earlier times... as it finishes with a diminishing chant
that fades back into time of winter and snow and faith long forgotten.

With this and the other recordings I have offered... your Christmas will indeed be special.

Boston Camerata's Medieval Christmas is a challenging and resfreshing holiday album. Usually, when traditional or olde carols are performed, they are contemporized in some way. That's not the case with Medieval Christmas. Everything is given faithful arrangements and is performed faithfully. It's music that is strangely familiar and strangely foreign at the same time.
