Hey there fellow shriners, here is yet another Renegade Edit, this time, it's Harry Sukman's score to the two part mini series based on one of Stephen King's best novel, Salem's Lot.

Directed by Tobe Hooper, Salem's Lot tells the story of Ben Mears, a successful novelist, returning to his hometown in an attempt to write a new novel based on the Marsden House, only to go through a series of strange events, leading up to having the town be plagued by vampires.

The score is creepy, brooding, suspenseful, (maybe a little over the top at times) but still great to listen to, and Intrada did an amazing job with remastering the score, removing all the static, muffled, and even out of place sound the bootleg had. The presentation was great, the sound was great, and the extra material was interesting to hear. BUT... that didn't mean there were some things that couldn't be improved.

Okay, remember in my Renegade Edit to Breakdown where I said I didn't like how they combined too many cues, will, that's not always a bad thing. Having to listen to 80% of the score just by short cues all the way through can also be just as irritating as having too many combined cues, so this is one of those scores where I combined most of the cues, but only if necessary (for example, if there were like three separate cues that are taking place in one event, or if they sound almost the same, like "Open The Window, Mark")

Speaking of cues, one I would like to mention is the cue "Mr. Barlow". In the mini series, this cue is a little bit different. They reused "Ralph is Floating" in between cues "It's Mr. Barlow Again" and "Face the Master". I can see why in the Intrada release they didn't do this (since it would be just repeating a cue they already used, but then again they reused "Mike Dives In" twice so why not), but as someone who has watched the mini series, this always bugged me. So for the main presentation, I edit these cues together, just as what was heard in the film, and used the version Intrada presented as one of the Highlights of the Score. The transition on the last two cues is a bit awkward in the mini series, so I did my best to make it sound more natural.

I also used EQ to give the sound a few adjustments, just to have the music stand out a little more.

One last thing, I was able to squeeze the entire score from the mini series into one disc thankfully (by taking all the source cues, and moving them in the second disc), and created an album styled score (since there never was an official release before the Intrada release).

I really had a lot of fun making this version, and I really hope you all like it, so without further do, here is the link:

Thanks for sharing. Waxwork Records (https://waxworkrecords.com/collections/vinyl/products/salems-lot) released this a little while ago, the pressing is beautiful. It has a good front cover, as well.

I'm listening and having fun. My ears aren't looking for similarities or differences between releases (including my version of the bootleg), I'm just thrilled to hear this great music, again. Very appropriate to the film and I doubly like Sukman's use of the "Dies Irae." Gets me nearly every time.

Which cue does Dies Irae appear in?

"Which cue does Dies Irae appear in?"

I do know it briefly appears in the beginning of "Ximico, Guatemala" ("The Church" in the intrada release). I don't think it appears in any other cues though, but I could be wrong.

Many thanks for the edit! Overall I'm pretty satisfied with what you've done. Been wanting to do it for years but never really got around to it. Now there's no need thanks to you! I did notice the exclusion of two tracks "The Holy Water (Main Titles) w/o overdub" and "Main Titles (feature version)" which I went ahead and included those two in my playlist. Great work!
