They're okay.

Just because you don't like the lyrics of a song, that doesn't make them any less songs. You sure are a silly person!

well, it not so much a song as it is a political message. why do they sing? why not protest at congress? i'm sure it costs far less money.

Hm... I enjoy System of a Down.. but I get your point. But not all of their songs are politically based. But... they should protest.. I belve they may actaully get somewhere. either that.. or they just write the songs for the fun of writing about the governmen and dont actually mean it o_O. That would be a waste of time X_X

It is a song with a political message, that does not make it any less a song. Most of their songs aren't even political. If you want to hear a band where politics really is the focus of almost every song, listen to Dead Kennedys, and then tell me that System of a Down focus too much on politics.

Obviously they sing because they like to make music. They make music about things which are important to them. That's about the height of it, I'm sure.

I am sure there are far more worthwhile places you could direct your ire. =/

People write music with political messages because it's a way to get your political message heard by a wide variety of people. Many political bands do the music AND go to protests.

Not only that, but it's a subject they feel strongly about, which means naturally they want to express how they feel, since they are artists. Artists express things they are very familiar with and/or feel very strongly about. The fans often feel the same way and this creates a more energetic bond between the fans and the musicians.

I think System of a Down is a pretty entertaining band, personally, and don't deserve to be thrown in with crap like Korn and Slipknot.

i'd rather not listen to system of a down. not solely because they make political messages, but because that's the ONLY thing they do. i mean, i like MOSH, but it wasn't the only kinda songs Eminem made. i should've made it clearer.

You claim that SoaD is your favorite band, and then you say they don't have many songs with political messages. You lose.

mosesdallama
05-25-2005, 07:00 AM
What the fuck? how do i lose by saying that my favourite band doesnt have much political messages? its true, they dont have much political messages.. theres only about 4-6 songs with pollitical messages (that i know of) and ive heard close to all of their songs..

unless the messages your thinking of are subliminal.. and i havent noticed subliminal messages.. maybe my mind isnt broad enough?

TK

Haha yes they are subliminal.

You have to PLAY THE SONGS BACKWARDS.

I'm not too great-a fan of SoaD, I can see where Doc Holidae is coming from with his 'Same song, with different music' crap, I expect he means that SoaD do seem to use the same trend of that changing between more melodic verses and the more hardcore pre-chorus' and chorus'. I'm liking some of their newer stuff, older songs like 'Chop Suey' just never really clicked with me in anyway.

Taking aside the fact that I wrote one of the longest and most helpful posts in this thread (it's right up near the top if you need to double check), you should keep in mind that all I'd have to do is push a few buttons to make it so you don't post anymore. :)

System of a Down is one of the best bands and they do go to protests. Just watch the music video for "Boom". You can watch it at Launch.com if you don't believe me. Also, not all of their political messages are the same. What's wrong with making music with political messages? Pop singers sing about stupid stuff and rappers sing about gangs, hoes and drugs, sorry, rappers "rap". So SOAD just sings about what they believe in.

GO LEXIE!! Kick ass!!

I don't understand this really. The only two songs that are fairly similar are Aerials and Spiders. Lyrically, their songs are very different (in most cases).

Can you explain this...?

Doc Holidae

what i mean, is it says the same thing. there's really not that much difference in the concept of their songs.

So to put it another way ... they make different songs again and again?

Not so much so that they are noteworthy for it. Many, many bands make different songs that continually cover similar subject matter. SOAD cover a comparatively wide range of subject matter.

There were 2/3 political songs on Toxicity, tops. You're just plain wrong.
