The moving family saga begins at the end of the 19th century, when the young Heinrich Bockelmann, the grandfather of Udo J�rgens, meets a street musician. The music of the unknown shows him the way to Moscow. Here Bockelmann rises to one of Russia's most influential bankers, but with the outbreak of the First World War, the family must flee. 20 years later, his son Rudi lives with his family in the meantime in Austria, the Bockelmanns feel the terror of the Nazis up close. Especially for Rudi's son Udo it is a difficult time. The sensitive boy prefers to play the piano rather than excel in the Hitler Youth. In the postwar period Udo wants to realize his dream of becoming a musician. But his career is slow: In the mid-50s he earned his money in Salzburg still as a bar pianist. However, when he won the Grand Prix d'Eurovision de la Chanson in Luxembourg in 1966 with the song "Merci Cherie", this marks the beginning of one of the most impressive careers in German music history.

He is stylistically classified between pop, chanson, jazz and pop music and was the first Austrian in 1966 to win the Grand Prix Eurovision de la Chanson (today Eurovision Song Contest).
Udo J�rgens is considered one of the most important entertainers of the 20th and early 21st century. He has composed more than 1000 songs, has published more than 50 albums and sold more than 105 million records in his more than sixty-year career. He is one of the most successful male solo artists in the world and one of the most successful entertainment musicians in the German-speaking world. In the early years he was usually seen as a pop singer, later he blasted the limits of the hit with his extensive compositional work. His lyrics, which come from different authors and himself, often address social issues, such as: Decadence ("Caf� megalomania" [Cafe Gr��enwahn], 1993). With an "Honorable House" [Ein ehrenwertes Haus] (1975) he caricatured the petty-bourgeois bigotry in relation to the then still considered problematic wild marriage - the "marriage without marriage certificate". Also on Gastarbeiterproblematik ("Greek wine" [Griechischer Wein], 1974), the environmental problem ("5 minutes before 12", see, on the other hand, the swallows fly high, 1983), the arms race (dream dancer, 1983) or the drug problem (red flowers of the poppy, 1984) took he position.
A trademark of his live concerts were the encores, which he always sang in a white bathrobe.
