Here is a set I made some time ago but like a few others, I've realized I never posted here.

This set is from the sessions leak and has the tracks organized and separated into each individual recorded cue. Disc 1-3 are the full play through and credits/Children Suite tracks. Disc 4 are alternate or incomplete takes, trailers, and extras.

In this particular set, The only track I can think of that has some slight SFX is the end of "[2m2] You're a wizard Harry" since it was cut off on the sessions leak. Oddly enough, in the film there's an odd change in the music from 5.1 to stereo at that exact moment so something must have happened to the recording.

The only other thing to note is that the original teaser trailer music, the first time many of the potter themes were recorded, was destroyed by the DAT reading machine so it was also forever lost. i've used similar and existing takes to rebuild it.

How different is it to the film? Not too different. There might be some minor editing in the film or if a track is unused it's marked as such. I included important tracked cues when I could in this set so that it still gives that story progression.

Wow, I had just decided today to go looking for this. Would you say this is the best version available? I always get nervous when there are multiple collections of the same score ;)

Heh... my goal is always to make the best I can make. But I feel that a lot of times its up to the listener to what is more conducive to their listening experience. I study film scores so I can get very detailed and enjoy hearing the tracks separate and the stage noise and Williams interrupting a take... some people would prefer to listen to it as a finished product.

I'm definitely looking for more of a straightforward listening experience. But just out of interest I'm also into the extra bits and pieces.

Would I be correct in assuming that the other set that you linked is more or less Discs 1-3 from your set? Is yours edited differently?

I'm a bit new to this whole thing so I don't totally get how these Recording Sessions/Complete Scores work.

So that's another great question. Complete is hard to really define anymore. I hate calling my stuff that anymore. I usually call it something else but this was an old set so for consistency sake I kept it and it is, to the best of my knowledge, everything and anything.

When John Williams records his scores, sometimes he will record a cue in multiple parts. He also records long sets of music that may be from one reel to another in multiple parts. It's served him well in the past, it allows the editing to make decisions on the music if it should or shouldn't be in a scene.

I tend to edit my releases "as recorded," ie: with all the starts and stops inherent in these recordings.

Many people will edit their releases to layer the tracks as intended and create one long track...

So for example, the ending of ET is 15 minutes of music. It consists of:
- Revised intro
- Actual cue of them escaping the house
- The bike chase including flying (with or without overlays)
- the ship arriving (with or without an insert)

I would release those as separate tracks (if I could) and others might have it as one long 15 minute track. It's up to the listener which they prefer.
And to my knowledge--without actually comparing it too indepth--my disc 1-3 would mirror that set, yes.
