I don't mean to hijack the thread, but...

I'd like to get into Dragon Quest music. I never went further than Dragon Warrior on the NES. There are tons of soundtracks (https://vgmdb.net/search?q=dragon+quest&field=date) out there.

Thing is, orchestral and/or symphony music is not for me, and it seems a lot of the Dragon Quest music is just that. I'm not big on Final Fantasy music, either (though I love the FFX, and FFXIII-2 soundtracks). Some of my favorite stuff is jazz, fusion, and progressive rock. I like percussion. I like bombastic synths (think: older Motoi Sakuraba work). I like guitars (but not like the in-your-face guitar-driven stuff of, say, the Guilty Gear games).

Is there a Dragon Quest soundtrack, original or arranged, for my ears?

Based on your preferences, the short answer is No. Even the arranged Dragon Quest albums feature classical instruments only (brass, woodwinds, piano, etc.) and there aren't any featuring fusion or guitars or any such things. DQ is pretty much straight classical no matter how you slice it.

However, many arranged albums from the 90s by Konami's Kukeiha Club (https://vgmdb.net/artist/161), would fit your description.
Ditto for Capcom's Alph Lyla (https://vgmdb.net/artist/477) albums...

Hope that helps.

I don't like orchestral/symphonic music usually, but I do love DQ OSTs still. Sugiyama Kouichi is a true prodigy, especially battle themes of DQ are always top-notch, like they should be, because it is the theme that must be heard over and over again. Symphonic music has so many levels, every time you hear the "same old" battle theme, you find something new in it, keeping it fresh. That is a mark of genius. :)
