According to a post on Film Score Monthly Forum Board and upon close listening, this seems to be true.
"with regard to Charley Varrick, in an earlier draft of the set we had included the Main Title, but upon listening to it, Lalo decided against its inclusion as he felt it "was not representative of the score as a whole." We substituted Last of the Independents, a terrific climactic action cue in its place--especially as the soaring orchestral second-half is unused in the film, and thus had never been heard before."
At times, the reconstruction consists of different sources, dvd/blu ray rips, previous mp3 compilation released. FX/Background noise reduced and removed as much as possible. When a legitimate release is announced, the reconstruction is retired.
