Hello, Im back after a long absence form the forum. Im looking toint buying Playstation online, and FF 11, but am a little confused as to what to buy. I was looking on the futureshop and best buy wepsites, and all it semes to have is "Final Fantasy XI Online: Chains Of Promathia Expansion Pack (PlayStation 2)" Is this what I want? Is this what I need to play there game? Or is there a 1st version (non expantion) or is the US version all incuded?

Could some one shed some light on this problem for me?

Thanx

P.S. This is also in the FF XI forum

Well, there is an original version of FF XI. Chains of Promathia is just the expansion. You need to get the first part of the game first, before playing the expansion pack. It comes with a modem for the old PS2, and the game itself. It a pretty solid game, and i recommend buying it. (P.S Nice avatar)

sorry to be so persistant, but i dont want to go out and spend 100$ and end up with somthing i cant use.

So i know the box set thing is what i need(i think?) and i can then right away buy the explantion? I just have to make a single character on the original and then i can go to the expantion?

Gah! So confused ...

Thanx

Yea. Any character you make on the first one will carry on to the expansion pack.

Yea, it should be. I got it like 16 days ago, and I still see it in stores. If not, I heard Ebays got some great deals.

The expansions add extra areas to explore, new Jobs (Samurai, Ninja and Dragoon - or SAM, NIN and DRG as they are commonly abbreviated in the game), plus a ton of new missions and quests to undertake. I'm a lvl 19 Mithra WHM myself, and I haven't even touched on the Expansion areas yet... There is jsut so much to do in this game... :D

As for the cost, the basic charge for FFXI (with no extra characters) is $12.95 US a month. Extra characters are an extra dollar for each, up to 15. For me, it costs me about $17 Australian per month to play, dpeending on the current exchange rate.

Incidentally, European FFXI players got both expansions bundled in the with the actual game, where as the Japanese and the US had to purchase Chains of Promathia seperately.

Ahh i see, well if chains is the expantion, what is the original called? and i looked it up, the expantion is only 20ish bucks at a local store, so i might just buy that at the same time.

If you get the game for the PS2, you will need to get a harddrive for your PS2 along with a network adapter. And of course, an internet connection.

FFXI has had two exansions actually. The first one was released seperate in japan, but since it was released later in america, the american version came with it. There's the original FFXI that you have to buy and install (along with the HD, etc for PS2) and it should come with the Rise of the Zilart expansion, which you will pretty much need to install as well since having the Zilart ares has become commonplace, just about everyone has Zilart. Then there's Chains of Promathia.. which I don't know how common place it's become, but when I played almost everyone I knew had it.
