How come you can never find an anime where the main characters, or even supporting characters, are actually Asian? Everybody is white, even though they live in Japan, or some place like that! Whats up with that?

Prak

The answer to that is really simple. Anime's major influences came from the west (particularly Disney), so the style reflects that. There's really nothing more to it as far as I know.

It does raise an interesting question though. Why are so many characters in American cartoons deformed midgets? America is not a nation full midgets with missing fingers, yet that's what you see on TV ALL OF THE TIME.

... And I've never seen a white person with green spikey hair, eyes that are the size of baseballs and tiny triangular noses either.

I dunno though... maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe America is really a pigmy nation and I just haven't noticed. Maybe all of the white people around me have grotesque facial proportions and neon hair that flies in all directions. Or maybe... just maybe, you're a fucking idiot that asks stupid questions.

Yu Yu Hakusho- main character is Yusuke Urameshi.
Rurouni Kenshin- all characters are Asian
Naruto- Jap names, like Uchiha Itachi

And that's just three. Looks don't matter, it's the name.

In the Manga, Yusuke looks a little asian, in the first chapter.

Thought that is a bit of a "right of the top question". That's just like saying, why do the Japaneses anime/manga artist draw black people with big, round, pink lips? As if it were like the early 1900s or someting...-_-

No, I didnt mean anything like that. Iam just wondering why a Japanese form of cartoon doesnt have Japanese looking people in it? Sofar, Pracks answer was the best.

i think you'll find that in most animes, at least those intended for international release, will try to make it easier for those watching in different cultures to be able to relate to. I have a couple of animes i doubt will ever reach western shores, fansubbed public tv ones, that have more asian facial features than that of say GTO.

Sayu

Well, my mom said that, but my opinion would be that some of the artist want to make more money off from America, since the anime characters somewhat resemble us (in looks), they can make anime more popular in America. Which, btw, they'll get more credit for their work (and this might be from some Japanese artist).

It is for the masses because people think that whites are "superior" so they give them something that they want. It is also customary. People are to used to whites in anime so they keep putting them back in it.

may be slightly off topic. but ash from pokemon was based on his creator,
satoshi (ash) tajiri. and also ash's skin was darker to everyone elses than
brocks. ( and i always hated that fucking retarded program).
well, seeing as satoshi was japanese and did the voice for the first 10 shows.
