MEGA used to be my all-time favorite upload and download hoster but the recent 15GB restriction for free accounts is pretty tight, these days I don't really upload (had to put it on 'pause' for unknown time) but it still feels irksome they did this. I've always been perfectly with copyright strikes as companies have their rights to demand to take down content they don't want it up for free of charge.

Now, users who don't really use much of content in gigabytes then 15GB may do them well but that's honestly too little for me. Heck, I might want to upload a ton of music and etc for my own private use and 15GB doesn't even come close to cover any of it although it's a good thing I have Google Drive and OneDrive accounts as they'll suit me.

I already pay for a VPN provider (well, paid for a lifetime license from Windscribe) so I don't want to also pay for another online thing and this is more of a hobby than an online necessity. Without a VPN there are a bunch of websites I can't access if I'm not using a VPN (cause the ISP/Govt blocked it), never once did I thought to myself I'd need a VPN but in this day and age.. I do.

P.S. Yes, I know Windscribe is part of the Five Eyes but I can't complain, it does the job and I'm happy with it.

/End of Rant :-P

I have an account with just over 20GB content (that I uploaded for ffshrine) before the 15GB limit struck in and I'm not even going to touch that. This certainly is an important factor for ffshrine and websites that rely on MEGA, Openload and etc.

The fucking Chinese Takeover of Mega meddling with what once was positively the best Sharing Method
for People like us... It's sad... -_-

Googled about it and found this piece of info:

However, this was reduced to 15 GB, with additional amounts offered only on an expiring trial basis.

Better start finding a new host 'cause MEGA is more or less done for, as far as free users go.

Shit...
I guess Media Fire and similar are still there for a good reason...

Hm. The amount of storage is still more than what MediaFire currently offers to newly registered users (10 GB). Whatever, stuff hosted on MEGA seems to "die" pretty often around here, as of late, so sharers might want to look for alternatives regardless of storage.

you can just register an unlimited number of accounts to one single gmail adress (in case you have one of those) by utilizing the + trick.

say your gmail adress is [email protected]. register the first mega account as [email protected]. your second account as [email protected]. ad infinitum. every mail directed to the +mega(x) adresses gets put into your base account tzutzutree (and you can even create automatic filters to sort it into groups). to gmail it's all one account, to the provider of whatever service you want to trick its several separate accounts.

granted, if you want to stay entirely incognito, registering a gmail account might not be for you. i have no idea what steps they demand to create a fresh account nowadays, probably cell phone 2factor authentication, or physical adress confirmation.

getting several 15GB accounts is still better than any service out there, i reckon. but of course i treasure my years old 50gb free account, even going so far as to move all the overtly pirated stuff which i shared publicly off to one of the new ones, so that my old account would be spared from any copyright strike.

The more you upload content, the more likely you can reach their bandwidth limit. Size of storage is not everything.
Otherwise don't give meaningful name to your file, and password protect rar/zip files.

wasn't aware of the new restrictions, glad I got my accounts before this happened.

I'm glad I made my account when it was still at 50GB cap.
