Square-Enix has confirmed to Eurogamer that Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the feature film sequel to the hit 1997 game, is slated for a European release by the end of the year.

A Squenix representative told us that the movie will go on sale - both on DVD and UMD - "by the end of 2005". That's providing everything goes to plan, apparently, but the representative promised: "We're doing our best to get it out this year."

The news follows reports on US websites saying that the film will get a simultaneous DVD release in Japan and North America on September 14. There's still no word of an official UMD launch date, however.

The PS3 will be backwards compatable with the PS1 and the PS2. We don't have to give up FF7 just yet.

I would love to see a remake of 7 and 8, but they would have to redo the code for the game and that cost a lot of time and money.

I can only hope that the stirrings in the fanbase caused by this tech demo will ignite a project to actually remake the game. If they have such a huge fanbase and it's widely regarded as the best RPG ever, I should think they would be somewhat obligated to make it the best it can be now. I dunno..

yea, also the reason i think they might avoid doing it is to keep it original, if you know what i mean, untouched, to keep it the way it was, as some people out there will be complaining about this and that... there's always a few people. I would love to see a GRAPHICAL remake, where they kept everything else literally the same except for the video quality, now that would rock, and i think that would go hand in hand with the movie.

Something that would be cool, but not possible, is if they did a dual release, where they sold the movie and game as a bundle, or seperately but at the same time, i'd be willing to be there and pay full price for it.

No, it's not true, though Square-Enix does seem to be making quite a few deals with Microsoft regarding the XBox 360. FFXI and FFXII will be appearing on the Xbox 360, along with a few other RPGs made by Square-Enix.

It's to the song "Unwell" by Matchbox 20. I pulled out a really old one I didn't know I have, but I'm still missing critical footage: Sephiroth in the flames. I checked there, but the weren't downloadable. I'll try adventchildren.net and see what I find.

Hey just joined up, but been a long time FF fan, I live in the UK so hearing that it will be released in the US in September has pleased me a lot I would have gone insane if I didn't get a dose of FF, wait a year for FF12 come on, but will the dubbed version be released on the 13th of Sep and more important will it be any good, they need to find a decent enough voice cast and not ruin the feel.

E3 was showing it. As for the article, her read it in EGM (Electronic Gaming Monthly). He cleared it up again cause I got confused, it seems the magazine sayed it might come out on theaters.

does any1 think that because of all the hype about this movie, that we're goin to have another halo2 on our hands? that this movie won't quite reach the mile high expectations we have for it?

Ok I don't own an XBox but my friend does, he is a huge Halo fan and he gets so tired when people say that Halo 2 was bad, he wants to type something he is here right now but I'm not letting him though I will type some of his words.

He is sick of people saying Halo 2 story was lacking and that the ending sucked, he says damn Americans who love to have closure. He says that Multiplayer is the best around, online is damn amazing and you can't really beat it.

Well anyway enough of what he says, though I'm not a Halo fan myself I can't comment.

But surely this film can't be bad, it in the hands of the creaters, it's not a Hollywood produced movie game adaptation so they can't really get it wrong.

I don`t think so. Halo 2 was generaly shite compared to the first.
And advent children looks great so far, at least visually it does....

The reason why it's taking forever to release AC was because they don't want to disappoint us like other games. Otherwise, we all go on strike and burn them.

I will keep my final opinion of AC to myself until I see it.

I would like to disagree with you about Halo 2, mainly because I don't think you have the reasons backing it other than "not having a good story line." Would you say the same thing about Super Smash Brothers Melee? The story is shite? It is clearly meant to be a multiplayer game and you know it is fun as hell with 4 or more people just like Smash brothers. Tell me, what did you WANT from halo 2 save improving the story? Nothing. Cause it did everything better and you know it. Pistol was the only weapon used in Halo. It killed you from half a map away. Now that you use more than just a pistol and other weapons are actually utilized (SHOTGUN AHEM). The rocekt launcher is better. Almost every weapon is better. Graphics are upgraded and there is a online multiplayer. A few more maps would have been nice but that is no reason to call Halo 2 shit. It was most certainly better than the forst one for the above reasons. Go learn how to play if you can't use any weapon other than a pistol.


ON TOPIC.

Advent Children is obviously going to be better than most movies you see out there (Star wars had bad acting; Advent Children is CG characters). I am sure the fight scenes are going to AMAZING since real people might mess up or make it look unrealistic but it's Cloud and we know he can fly 100 feet in the air to do Claimhazard. WE know yuffie can jump off spinning and shit while throwing glaives. We KNOW Vincent can fly. It may be hyped up but its not like we don't know what is coming. We jus want to be hit with the cool factor. WE WANT to see sephy vs cloud. All of us do. They held it from us in the American Kingdom hearts and it dissapointed a lot of people. If nothing else...we want Cloud vs Sephiroth and that deserves all the hype we can offer.

personally i do think it will turn out fine. and to be honest, you can't really compare Advent Children to something like Halo, because realistically speaking Halo was a much more publicly advertised piece, where this movie is pretty much only known to us FF fans. Go out there and ask random people about it and you'll see my point. Everyone knows about Halo becuase it was on the news, and so forth, so this can't do that bad in comparison anyway, because the hype isn't really that grand in the large scale of things. To us it is, and i'm not denying that this is big... but the comparison is out of proportion.

None the less, i'm in this because i want to see some summoned creatures and special effects. and i think they made a movie because it is more secure then making a game, AS it would be pretty much impossible for them to keep up the standards... have people noticed how games are generally declining in overall quality..??

Although.....it could be crap. It`s a possibility, it could have more plot holes than The spirits within......ok,maybe not that much.

Yeah, FFVII fans are a mean bunch. Personaly, i think, i hope it will be good if not great. I hope the movie doesn`t depend too much on the game and i also hope it doesn`t end with many question left unanswered for Crisis core to pick up on.

yea i know what you mean. to be honest, spirits within wasn't that bad either, it was still an enjoyable movie, even though it could have been better. Square should have probably experimented, and then this might have turned out into a theatre release, which would be amazing.

None the less, DVD's are good... but from reading up on some of the stuff... i'm worried that the story might turn out a bit plain... know what i mean? I guess it's 'cause i'm expecting the movie to live up to the game, which i'm afraid it might not be able to accomplish...

Yeah, Spirits within was ok. Visualy it was stunning but i think the story borrowed too much off FFVII. Plus, i think as a FF fan, i made myself enjoy it.

Regarding Spirits within, it revolved around the lifestream, the planets resource. Remember at the end, we can see the lifestream rising up out of the crater.

Also, a little side note: The same guy who created the lifestream for Spirits within did it in FFVII.

Also, it is going to be better on DVD, personaly i think it will feel a bit more personal.

yea i know, i was talking about it with a friend who liked moive but wasn't into FF, and i called it the life stream the whole time, he kept correcting me, lol.

i'm all good for the DVD, this way i can watch it all i want, when i want, and whatever bits i want... now all i'm missing is a home theatre system :(, lol. I wonder if it's gonna turn out so that you wouldn't have to know the game to be able to understand the movie, 'cause that way it could be a good movie to watch in company...

i wouldn't mind seeing them, i'm looking forward to lots of monsters and magic :D, it's the essence of Final Fantasy, and i'd be dissappointed if they held back. I want to be picking out tomberries, and so on, and Chocobo's, and a moogle would be cool!!!

Haha, don't worry I won't have internet access over the summer so I can't do it till the release date, but it's just a small reminder.

I would like to disagree with you about Halo 2, mainly because I don't think you have the reasons backing it other than "not having a good story line." Would you say the same thing about Super Smash Brothers Melee? The story is shite? It is clearly meant to be a multiplayer game and you know it is fun as hell with 4 or more people just like Smash brothers. Tell me, what did you WANT from halo 2 save improving the story? Nothing. Cause it did everything better and you know it. Pistol was the only weapon used in Halo. It killed you from half a map away. I just think that the reason everybody else says it sucks it because it had SOOO much hype about it that evreybody was expecting this almighty godlike game and it wasn't, it was just a great game. Me, personally I hate to be byast on anything when Im judging it, and I'm really trying to keep an open mind about ac.

Well it intially started off as an exercise for the Square team. They were given an assignment and they choose to make a very short FFVII movie (which was the original footage of Cloud fighting Kadaj). So yeah, it`s taken around 3 years but i don`t blame them for taking so long. Hell, they can delay it for another 3 years to make sure it`s good for all i care.
