Original Score by David Shire

"I work on my hair a long time and you hit it. He hits my hair. "

"You know, you and I got the same last initial.
Wow. Does that mean when we get married I won't have to change the monogram on my luggage?"

"There's ways of killing yourself without killing yourself"

SYNOPSIS

OK, so in case you've been living under a rock and never saw "Saturday Night Fever", here's the Cliff Notes:
John Travolta stars as a local disco kingpin at the peak of his popularity.
Once a week, after six full days of work in a Brooklyn paint store, Tony (Travolta) douses himself with Brut cologne, dons a floral bodyshirt, gabardine pants and platform shoes - and ritualistically prepares himself for "Tribal Rites of the New Saturday Night" (original movie title).
Through the influence of Stephanie, his more sophisticated dance partner, and Tony's brother a disillusioned priest, Tony begins to question the way his views life and the narrowness of his perspective.

ABOUT THIS SOUNDTRACK

Using the 2017 Director's cut as a template, I've reconstructed the complete soundtrack (in order). First off you'll notice that the "main" disco tracks now appear as extended Promo (DJ) versions. Upon listening to these tracks you'll notice not much is new, just mostly repetition of bars, beats and verses;
"Disco Inferno" does have an added instrumental verse though.
But for the disco buffs from the 70's, you'll recognize these are the original tracks played in the clubs.

Also appearing on this album are the repeated tracks and reprises (usually underneath the dialogue). Interestingly, all of these tracks are remixes of the original songs, but with verses mixed out of order.
For example "If I Can't Have You" clips by Yvonne Elliman appear three times; but each version is mixed slightly different.

David Shire was responsible for scoring the background tracks and produced a number of cues that have never been released. The tracks are:
"Tony and Annette Practice", "I Said Maybe", "Tony and Stephanie", "Near the Verrazano Bridge", "Barracuda Hangout", "Death on the Bridge", "All Night Train".

Some of them I was able to recover cleanly, others were just full of Fx that couldn't be completely removed. Case in point, the track "Near the Verrazano Bridge" is a beautiful instrumental version of "How Deep Is You Love". The problem is, it suffers from "birds" in the middle of the track!

If you're keeping score, you'll notice that "Jive Talkin'" and "Calypso Breakdown" are not here. Sources across the internet claim "Jive Talking" appeared in a scene that was "cut" from the film.
I could not find it anywhere in the "Director's" cut either; The same goes for "Calypso Breakdown".

Though it's not perfect, it's a realistic representation of the entire movie.
So go put on your polyester suit and your platform shoes; turn up your stereo and
have a listen!
Enjoy.

"(Our Love) Don't Throw It All Away" - Bee Gees
"Warm Ride" - Bee Gees
"Calypso Breakdown" - Ralph MacDonald
"Jive Talkin'" was included in the original soundtrack album, but not in the film.
It was to have been used in a deleted scene taking place the day after Tony Manero's first Saturday night at the disco, but as the sequence was cut for the final film, the song was cut as well.

Thanks for your efforts! The one holy grail for this soundtrack though is the version of Stayin' Alive with a slow bridge in the middle. Check out the below video for a snippet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzfrQL3yZnc

The only known recording to exist is in the hands of Blue Weaver (speaking in the video). He was the keyboard player for the band in those days. This version would've ruined the dance-ability of the song but it is such a true gem of writing and feeling. Just hear how it fades back into the groove of the original song. Truly brilliant. Alas, the record company decided not to make any effort for their re-releases and not use this version.

It's a pity some of those lovely cues aren't available without FX but you've done as good a job as can be done. Terrific. x

I see what you mean. This is similar to the "break" in the Bee Gees "Nights on Broadway".
It starts off with a psuedo Disco beat, moving along quickly. Then at the bridge, it drops into a simliar, slow, mopey tune!
