There’s 2 different versions of I Hate Myself for Loving You, anyone happen to know which one is used in the film?

Faith by George Michael was also used in the movie.

There's a listing on SoundtrackMania that has several other songs listed, but I honestly can't remember hearing a lot of them (or seeing them listed in the end credits.) I'm wondering where exactly they got their info, seeing how they don't even list Van Halen's Jump, which opens the movie.

Also, small nitpick: The version of Blue Monday used in the movie (and on the "Songs From" album) is the original, not the '88 remix that the book references. And for some reason, this album's version begins with one extra drum beat, which I've never heard before.

Interesting. I’m thrilled Jump is in the film, I was ecstatic to hear it used in trailer 1. Is it edited in any special/particular way? And is Blue Monday the single edit or the 7” version? Weird that it’s not the ‘88 remix.

So we got New Order covered, but are there any Joy Division songs used? I noticed in trailer 3 Art3mis is wearing an Unknown Pleasures t-shirt.

I wasn’t sure which version of Blue Monday was used. Any websites that list the “complete” soundtrack seem to use Ernest Cline’s playlist he created for the movie.

Not really, just fades in and fades out in the first scene. To be honest, its inclusion is jarring to say the least. In the intro, it sets up this depressing futuristic version of a ghetto within Ohio and Jump plays in the background...just doesn't fit in my opinion. It's almost as if they used Jump as a temp track, but never bothered to replace it with anything.

It seems like most of the songs were just thrown in there. That's my gripe with recent movie soundtracks using pre-existing songs. It's like they didn't put any effort into choosing them and just picked them randomly from a list of available tracks they can use.

Here are the songs I picked out from the movie, in order:

Jump - Van Halen (Opening scene)
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears (James Halliday and the origin of the OASIS)
I Hate Myself for Loving You - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts (Start of the race for the first key)
Faith - George Michael (Parzival visits the Halliday archives)
Stand on It - Bruce Springsteen (Parzival and Aech go on a shopping spree)
One Way or Another - Blondie (Art3mis and Parzival meet at the archives)
Can't Hide Love - Earth, Wind and Fire (Art3mis asks Parzival to the dance)
Blue Monday - New Order (Parzival arrives at the dance)
Stayin’ Alive - The Bee Gees (Parzival and Art3mis dance)
Midnight, the Stars, and You - Al Bowlly (Art3mis rescues Kira)
We’re Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister (Castle attack)
You Make My Dreams (Come True) - Hall & Oates (End Credits)

EDIT: As a sidebar, RP1 author Ernie Cline has "You Make My Dreams" played at his wedding as he and his new bride exited the church. Spielberg loved that story so much that he added the song to the end credits.

EDIT 2: There's a song playing in the background when Parzival is trying on outfits for the dance at Aech's, but I can't make it out.

'I Wanna Be Your Lover' was definitely in the movie. It was playing in Aech's shop after the race, right before 'Just My Imagination' plays. I don't remember hearing any of those other songs in the movie.

Okay, so I watched the movie and I loved it! It was pure fun. The action and the visuals were great and the score worked perfectly in the movie (I would say that sounded better in the theatre). And I cannot remember all the scenes but the list shared above is mostly correct, with the four The Shining songs and You Make My Dreams together with Main Titles and End Credits as the end credits music. Below I have the tracklist with a little description of the scene it appeared so it helps to clear things up. Obviously it has spoilers, so don't look it up if you haven't seen the movie (which I totally recommend if you're fan of this kind of movies).

01. Van Halen - Jump (Opening scene where Wade explains the situation on Earth)
02. The Oasis (OASIS is presented)
03. Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World (James Halliday explains the origin of the OASIS)
04. “Hello, I’m James Halliday” (James Halliday talks in a video about the quest he has created after his death)
05. “I Hate Myself for Loving You” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts (Start of the race for the first key)
06. "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince (Aech, Parzival and Art3mis arrive at Aech's workshop)
07. “Just My Imagination” by The Temptations (Art3mis tests Parzival about Halliday)
08. Unreleased Score/Tracked? "Wade On Washers" (Wade is on the washers at his house trying to figure out how to win the first trial)
09. “Faith” by George Michael (Parzival arrives at the Library)
10. “Why Can’t We Go Backwards?” (Wade finally realizes how to win the race and gets the first key)
11. “Stand on It” by Bruce Springsteen (Parzival and Aech go on a shopping spree)
12. An Orb Meeting (Sorrento meets with i-Rok who gives him the Orb of Osuvox)
13. “One Way or Another” by Blondie (Parzival arrives at the library and everyone tries to take a picture with him)
14. “Can’t Hide Love” by Earth, Wind & Fire (Art3mis asks Parzival to go to the dance, Parzival tries different costumes on)
15. “Blue Monday” by New Order (Parzival arrives at the disco)
16. “Stayin' Alive” by Bee Gees (Parzival changes the song and starts to dance to that song with Art3mis)
17. Real World Consequences (IOI agents appear, Parzival and Art3mis manage to escape thanks to The Zemeckis Cube)
18. Sorrento Makes An Offer (Sorrento makes an offer for capturing Wade)
19. Welcome To The Rebellion (Wade meets Samantha in the real world)
20. “The Shining – Main Title” by Wendy Carlos and Rachel Elkind (The group enters the theater and they discover they are inside The Overview Hotel)
21. “Adagio, Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta” by Bla Bartk (Aech follows the twin girls)
22. “Polymorphia” by Krzysztof Penderecki (The blood flood starts coming out of the elevator and Aech ends up in the Room 237 with the zombie woman)
23. "The Awakening of Jacob For Orchestra" by Krzysztof Penderecki (Johnny appears and starts attacking Aech with the axe)
24. “Midnight, The Stars and You” by Ray Noble and His Orchestra (Plays at the zombie dance in the Shining trial)
25. High 5 Assembles (The five friends meet in the real world and decide to get together to stop Sorrento)
26. Orb Of Osuvox (Sorrento and I-Rok cast the spell on the Orb to protect the castle)
27. Sorrento Punked (Sorrento is kept at his office by Parzival and his group, who are trying to set Art3mis free)
28. Wade’s Broadcast (Wade gives a speech encouraging everyone at OASIS to help him fight Sorrento)
29. Arty On The “Inside” (Art3mis enters Sorrento's office and tries to deactivate the Orb)

I bought the digital Songs From album, and I've noticed that the version of Prince's I Wanna Be Your Lover has a noticeably fuller sound than any other version I own (album or single version.) I've uploaded it in the hope that someone might be able to identify where it's from, or if it's possibly an all-new remaster (hopefully from an upcoming re-release of Prince?) I didn't get any liner notes with the purchase, and there seems to be no physical copy of this album planned, but DAMN I'd like to own a lossless / physical copy of this song (and others with it.)

It's possible they might have done like the Guardians Of The Galaxy soundtracks and made there own new remaster of the track. That would explain why "I Hate Myself For Loving You" sounds so different from any other version available. I guess we'll just have to wait for a CD release of the soundtrack.
