I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought this was a disappointment when I heard it in the film. Sure, it harkens back to his old style, but lacks any memorable theme to anchor the score.
Personally I think it was a missed opportunity to include some 80's score references in the film. Like when the car race is finally won, it would have been much better to hear a familiar brass fanfare like The Last Starfighter or Willow, rather than an unmemorable and characterless one from a faded Silvestri.
Just my opinion.
