Of course recoding your collection might not make any sense to you, since you will not get any quality more by doing so. But let me tell you: to my knowledge, compressed flac has exactly the same quality as uncompressed, and by today standards, the decoding time is negligible. So the benefit of using lvl 8 compressed flacs is that you would be saving quite a lot of space on your HD by doing so (specially if you have a big collection). Of course, if storage space is not a problem for you, I do not see the point of wasting any time on recoding.

Anyway, FLAC, by definition, is a compressed format (FLAC means Free Lossless Audio Codec, where Codec = COmpressor/DECompressor), so, even when uncompressed, is already compressing (usually) from the 44.100kHz / 16 bits of an audio CD.

-Uncompressed flac: 783 MB
-flac -8: 376 MB
-Recoding time from umcopressed to -8: 10 seconds
