This record started my current obsession with vinyl. Before I bought it, I listened to online samples of John Carpenter's Anthology and thought that the music sounded too clean and too modern. So I decided to someday buy the vinyl version in order to have some "dirt" that might age the music. But the plan wasn't yet fully formed. One day, while shopping for something else, I went into one of the biggest electronics retailer in our town to look for new Blu-Rays. By chance, I found this and decided on a whim to buy it. Unbeknownst to me, I had just bought one of the Limited Editions. The main disc contains the same program as the regular edition but adds colour, in this case, "Christine Red". The package also contains a 7'' single (45 rpm) with 2 bonus tracks. I really like the overall design. Simple and efficient, yet good looking. Now I also like the sound. The vinyl records are of good quality yet they add just the right amount of flaws to make the sound more enjoyable.

P.S.: I transferred these records before I bought the Paratrace stylus. The stylus used for this one was the AT95EX. Despite this, the quality is pretty good. I opted against transferring it a second time only because I didn't want the signal to get too clean. Imagine for a second that I just wrote this ;)

Wow what a cool gift, SonicAdventure. Thanks for applying your "masterblaster" to this collection from the multifariously talented John Carpenter. I appreciate how your remastering increases auricular pleasure as always.

I think it's more we were all in shock to see you post a vinyl rip.

Will give this a listen.

I'm still in shock.

All you need to do is a remaster using vinyl as a source and then I've seen everything.

:o jesus christ!

the very opening... one of my favorite Carpenter films (after BTILC)...

Agreed, the aesthetic and vintage sound from the vinyl rip gives it a whole new outlook.

I wouldn't want all music in vinyl rips.
Hans Zimmer probably won't sound nearly as artistic as these guys.

The more organic the score, the richer the vintage feel you'll hear from these rips.

Thanks a lot for this share.

Even with 24bit and 96kHz, it still comes out as a small size for a vinyl rip.
Should be no problem converting this to 16bit/44.1kHz.

I got to say. The In the Mouth of Madness track with the vintage feel is really taking me back to the first days I used to watch this movie to no end on VHS. :D

I understand the shock. I know vinyl to be inferior to anything digital (Hell, even to tape) but I just adore handling it. And every nifty artwork gets tons better when it's so big. But I probably won't do a remaster using a vinyl source. Erm... just a few days ago I bought '10 Cloverfield Lane' (Mondo) and the score doesn't sound that perfect on digital as well. So I'm actually thinking about posting a vinyl rip that's also remastered and improves upon the general sound ;)

Exactly.

It's true, he doesn't. I have Inception and that record was badly pressed, containing all kinds of defects. Doesn't sound that good.

The FLAC was encoded with lossyFLAC, that's why it's so small ;). You don't have any quantization noise within audible range - but above 20 kHz? Parts of the signal you can see is quantization noise shaped by lossyFLACs noiseshaper.
