Thank you Bob. If you want another Brandenburgs at 392 Hz, I recommend you the Dunedin Consort recording:
http://www.linnrecords.com/recording-j-s-bach-six-brandenburg-concertos.aspx It's one of the best I've heard.Oh wow, I will definitely have to check that one out, especially after their excellent Messiah (which I posted here a few weeks ago), thanks very much!I managed to secure a copy of the Dunedin Consort recording, and it certainly is very good - but from what I could hear, it's not quite as good as the Egarr/AAM version in this thread. The Dunedin doesn't have quite as full a sound and also has less bass response from the continuo. In addition, the ensemble overall is just slightly more constricted sounding, which takes away some of the marvelously natural-sounding clarity that is such a hallmark of the Egarr/AAM recording. It seemed like the Dunedin recording was miked rather closely, as if I'm either sitting in the very front row or perhaps even standing at the very foot of the stage. With Egarr, however, it seems like I'm about 10 rows or so back from the stage, which is just about perfect.
The quality of the two performances seems very similar, with both groups doing a terrific job, so I'd have to give the edge to the Egarr/AAM recording on the basis of better sound.
