I think that my favorite is the Bittersweet Symphony video. I prefer it to just the song. I guess that's how you feel about a good video.

I also like Aphex Twin's videos, like "Windowlicker" and "Come to Daddy."

My favourite one is either Street Spirit by Radiohead or Do The Evolution by Pearl Jam, least favourite......hmmm, yeah one of those stereotypical gangsta rap videos.

I like music videos if they're done well and show a certain amount of artisitic thought put into it.

I really love the Weapon of Choice video. The one with Christopher Walken dancing.

I don't watch music videos that often, really. Usually the only time I see them is when I'm in a store that has them on. So yeah. Can't think of any I strongly dislike.

The Weakerthans have awesome music videos. Lookit my avatar - that's from Our Retired Explorer, one of the best music videos ever, imo.

I think they're fun. Ooh, and Rage is on tonight; a good music video show that I haven't watched in ages thanks to Uni....can't think of any other good music videos at the moment though.

Why do people not like music videos? I'm curious. I can understand not liking the ones with rappers and women by a swimming pool or a band just standing there playing, but there's a bunch of interesting ones too.

In the US, most of the music video channels that people get only show that sort of video.

I know you can watch videos on the internet, but I don't always thing to do that.

I had Much Music when I lived really close to Canada, and that one showed some good stuff.

There is a new Eyeliners music video available for download on their web site.

Like all music videos, it's totally lame. But as music videos go, it's pretty good, and features a neat cameo.

I have a friend with a collection of film shorts (most of which are music videos) from the directors Michael Gondry(Eternal Sunshine), Chris Cunningham, and Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich) (all bought in a boxed set). All these directors did something for Bjork and as a whole all the musics videos in this collection are pretty high quality film in terms of creativity and style. I personally found All is Full of Love (Bjork), with the erotic robots, quite sweet.

and you can't deny that a lot of music vids have really great concepts. take last dance with mary jane by tom petty for example--the song is about marijuana but the vid had a dead kim basinger with whom tom petty danced with--it was brilliant. prodigy's smack my bitch up was another great concept--a night of partying through a girl's eyes. to top that one off, she sees herself in a mirror at the end.

i can understand not liking the majority, but some are really great.

It never ceases to amaze me that people make this comment about me when I never actually say anything like that. I know you're just being goofy but seriously, I'm genuinely curious as to where this idea comes from.

@TK: how can you not like any music vids? if you were to make one, what would you do?

Uh... If I had to make a music video, I would make it all footage of random stuff that I thought was neat footage. I just don't feel like anything can really be accomplished by it. There are two ways to go about it, it would seem: Either try to show your band playing the song and look cool, or be all artistic and look cool. If you show your band playing the song, it almost always just ends up looking ridiculous because it's so obvious they aren't actually playing it, and they usually try to do a bunch of crazy coreographed shit that they could never actually do if they really were playing (and also just looks really dumb in the first place.) If you try to go the "artistic" route, there's not enough space to actually accomplish much. You have to go with whatever the theme of the song is and it's rare that there's really a way to effectively demonstrate or build on it in video form (Ah, I see! The song is about a fellow being sad because his girlfriend left him, and there he is onscreen, looking dejected! Wow!). Music and video work together great when there's a context for them, like in a film where the music adds to the scene within the context of the whole piece, but I have never seen it done effectively as a standalone.

But hey, it's not like I watch music videos regularly. Maybe there are good ones out there and I've just never seen them.

I downloaded an onitsuka chihiro video last night because of I don't know why. Her face looks really pained when she's singing, so I'm guessing that she actually sang while they were recording and they just cut it out.

Anyways, I don't really like music videos. I don't doubt the existence of neat ones, fun ones, etc. It's just that the vast majority of them aren't any good, and if they are, there is very little reason to watch them more than once or twice over a decent stretch of time, like most videos of ... anything. I can listen to a 15 minute song countless times, but the effect of video-regardless of length- is entirely different. Even when I was young enough to like a decent portion of the songs that played on whatever video show my brothers and sisters would watch, they would play videos the way the radio plays songs. The same ones week after week with a few new ones slowly creeping in every months. How anyone could just sit there and watch them day after day I could never understand, and so I don't watch music videos at all.

That's changed a little since I've found a few online. But none have been interesting beyond some sort of novelty, and I don't watch them more than once or twice. What it comes down to is, would I rather just hear the song or hear it while it's accompanied with a video, and the answer is, unless the song sucks and the video is awesome, I'd rather just listen.
