Thank you bobtheknob for this great post. I have been a Mahler fan since 1972 when I heard Mahler's 6th with George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra. My favorite 6th now is Sir John Barbirolli's with the New Philharmonia Orchestra on EMI even with the lingering, some say glacial pace of the first movement. I own the James Levine/CSO RCA Red Seal recording of the 7th so I am looking forward to Chailly's interpretation as I very much liked his Mahler 5th. Thanks again.

Thanks! I have 7th from Solti, Haitink, Kubelik, Horenstein, Boulez, Gergiev. I think Haitink is genius, his some odd Mahler's symphonies are fantastic and 7th one of them. But it's from 1970 and LP, i think there is no remaster yet, however sound is great. So, let's listen to Chailly. I heard that he has one of the best 5th interpretations from 2005 set with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. I have this set somewhere too, but never heard :)

1000 thanks, Chailly and this Orchestra where a fantastic team. German orchestra seating for a Mahler symphony is a MUST. All these stereo effects from Mahler's partitura can only heard this way.

Thank you, 'bob', for another excellent share! Admittedly, I am not very familiar with Mahler's 7th symphony, so I appreciate the introduction to this recording which, I suppose, will serve as a sort of benchmark if/when I approach other performances of the work.
