Man, YouTube rips with unedited filenames are a headache. Is anyone confirmed to be working on a proper in-game rip? I don't want to start one if someone's 70% through!

For the perfect game rip, we would have to wait until the music files get dumped so we could listen in the highest quality.

Not really, since without saying too much, there's ways in-game to get a very clean rip of every track. But I don't want to put the hours of work into assembling that collection if someone else is already doing it.

EDIT: sample of quality you can get from in-game: http://picosong.com/wnquz/

They are recorded in "painting room". Is that a location in Mario Odyssey? How do they get 320 kbps rips? Like, what equipment would I need?

They? That's my rip. All I use these days is an Elgato HDMI capture device, but I used to use line-in RCA cables or headphones jacks to rip music. There are rooms in SMO that have paintings, which is where I stood to rip these songs. I'm trying to keep things spoiler-free, here! You don't need special equipment to make a 320kbps MP3, I used that high bitrate simply because I don't have time to analyze and determine in what way the game's music files are compressed, because again, I feel pretty confident someone else is already going through that trouble.

If you want to learn how to rip music, that's awesome! But I wouldn't take on something as large as Super Mario Odyssey as a first project.

The basic audio software I've used for 12 years is NCH Wavepad, which is awesome, and I've been using VEGAS Pro for 10, mostly for video, but for advanced audio work (like that mp3) as well.

Oh I actually have all of Odyssey recorded and made my own album already. I do use the elgato HD60 PRO but that only captures audio at 221kbps. I was looking for something to record at 320kbps. That's why I was asking.

I also did not pay attention to the area in-game I recorded the songs in, because I was under the impression that if you use the certain feature in Odyssey with the music it would block out any other background noise. Is that not right?

Do you think you would be able to share your album with us?

YT rip is better than nothing for now, but YT messes with everything and probably makes a lossy mp3 even lossier. And then by converting it during dl back into mp3? Not a good idea.
So a direct game rip in a non lossy format would be best for now. (And as mentioned, someone may already work on something properly.)

Files dump will take a (long?) while since according to the HCS Forums the game got a new encryption which needs to be broken first.

Nah, sadly ambient noise remains. Another user in the other thread has found a good spot for recording, but I seriously doubt wherever you recorded has enough noise to warrant throwing out the work. Upload your version of Honeylune Ridge somewhere, that's the easiest one to hear it in! And preferably do so in the other thread (Thread 220052), since this one will become deprecated once a rip is released.

EDIT: Also, I doubt the Elgato's audio preview is compressed, so if you can record that through Stereo Mix, it should be 44.1 or 48khz with the only compression being whatever is present in the game files. I wouldn't worry about the difference between 221 and 320 for a general purpose rip, but I guess some people out there would make a stink. If it were me, I'd do the entire thing as V0 MP3 like my Honeylune Ridge: Escape sample rip (http://picosong.com/wnkwi/), and if someone wanted to waste their time getting that extra tiny bit of quality with a huge filesize increase ahead of a disc release, they'd be more than welcome to :P
