KevinG: Thank you so much for your last two postings. I'm a big James Horner fan and when I saw Troy, I jumped at it. I don't know too much about Jarre except for his mega-hits so listening to this was a must. I've got about 20 Horner soundtracks and really like all but 3 or 4 which just don't work for me at all. I was curious if Troy would contain some Star Trek music from Gorky Park from The Wolfen from The Hand (all of which I quite like, notwithstanding) but it didn't, which is always a good thing. On the other hand, to my ear, it doesn't contain anything. Definitely is for me the least interesting of any of Horner's soundtracks, or of anybody's soundtracks, really. Just typical featureless movie muzak to cover up the silence between sfx sounds.

But! - my disappointment led me to check out the story behind this being a last minute replacement soundtrack, which led me to another thread here and Yared's original soundtrack, which is stunning. Troy is a movie I have no interest in ever seeing, so I don't know which soundtrack suits the film better, but Yared's is certainly something you can sit and listen to outside of a theatre, without images in front of your eyes. And that's what I want in a soundtrack recording, something that can be listened to independently of watching the film. So thanks for that, KevinG, you led me to a brilliant Troy soundtrack.

Rather shocked by James Horner's incredibly classless comments about Yared and his soundtrack. Hugely disappointed in him. It is going to be a while I think before I'll be able to listen to Horner without a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. But, hey, Beethoven was a much more horrible person and I still listen to him. Of course, he was also one of the greatest music writers in history...

As for Shogun: Wow! This is an amazing score. This is probably my favourite Jarre of all, so far. I think this is going to be one of my favourite scores, period. Thank god Jarre didn't have to please a test audience these days or it probably would have been rejected too. Good grief.

So again, thanks KevinG, for giving me inadvertently one new favorite and quite decidedly another new favorite. Despite the fact that you're costing me money in that I now have to order Shogun, you are the best!
