Welcome to the PSX section of the VGMPP (Video Game Music Preservation Project)!

As some of you may know, I'm ripping and archiving video game music in streamed format. In the past, I've been posting more than 750 rips in my main thread (Thread 119745). There you can find generic information about "Why streamed rips" as well as my past rips in neat lists in pseudo-database format.
I've recently chosen to create several new threads with individual platforms as some are suitable for this kind of archival. The PSX platform is one of them.

About the PSX system

PSX games are a bit special to rip because of the unique file system they use. Often, the music is saved as redbook audio (a.k.a. audio tracks) but in many cases as interleaved XA files. These can only be copied to a HDD with special tools (like IsoBuster). To play them they have to be parsed with a special script I specifically made for them with the powerful language QuickBMS by Luigi Auriemma (http://aluigi.altervista.org/quickbms.htm). Movie files (which in most cases also contain exclusive music) have the same structure and need to be processed with another script I also wrote.
There are some games that use their own MIDI system, which I cannot rip. I will say so in the lists.

How to play?

All files can be played with Winamp and the vgmstream plugin (most recent version I have: http://www76.zippyshare.com/v/56i08M6r/file.html). You will normally encounter XA, SS2 and VAG. XA is the Playstation's own format (CDXA ADPCM), the other two are Playstation ADPCM (vag = only mono, ss2 both mono and stereo).

How will I manage this thread?

I'm not quite sure about that but for now I will post all rips in a forum table down below. As the rips grow in number, I might create another pseudo-database with individual posts that contain release year and single letters (or numbers respectively).

Can I request a game?

Yes you can! The only rule is: One game at a time (for all members) until I've added the download link. Then the next person can request inside this thread. I will tell you if a game is unrippable.

So, without further adue, I'll just start this thread with posting a list of currently requestable games that I've already ripped. You may request as many of these as you like because uploading doesn't take much time.

I have always wanted a gamerip of Metal Gear Solid since the official OST is missing so much great music, like the track that plays right after Enclosure in that scene that fans know what I mean. Is that one rippable?

I don't think anyone has been able to convert it yet. There is a lot of interesting unused / development content on the three "pilot" demo discs for MGS1. Unfortunately, people have pretty much only been able to get at it via hex editing an emulator.

Interesting pilot disc bits:

UPDATE

I've been taking a look at Metal Gear Solid but I'm having trouble making sense out of the archives. Some contain movie streams but the music is somehow hidden inside them. I'm guessing the game uses a midi system but I'm not sure. This seems to confirm my fear: https://hcs64.com/mboard/forum.php?showthread=42744

The nice thing with PSX is that most of the games either have audio tracks (lossless) or 37kHz music in a format that doesn't produce that many compression noise. Compared with GameCube or PC games from this era it has a clear advantage.

Looking for a complete rip of Master of Monsters: Disciples of Gaia. Not the redbook one with only 5 tracks, but the entire soundtrack of about 30-35.

Just took a look - the game also uses a midi structure which I am unable to rip at the moment. Sorry.

---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:00 PM ----------

Just to make this clear: I am unable to rip it at the moment. I have found a program that converts the midi files into playable psf files but they all play 3:00 and the program has no option to cut at the looping point. I refuse to edit the files manually right now. I'm in contact with the creator of the program and am asking for a built-in "set length to SEQ end" option. If this is done, I can rip almost every single "unrippable" game from the list above. :D

Hello! Can you please do a rip of Gran Turismo 2 PS1 please? The game uses XA for in-game/title music and sequences of sounds for menu songs.

ok, no problem. Thanks for ripping the streamed songs.

Edit: just looked at PSF joshw info, and found out that Gran Turismo 2 rip had more streamed music files. Did you look at it?
it may be different because of the game's CD region (some tracks available on EU discs and not avail @US for example). BUt that's my wild guess

Hey, Alpha23. Just want to point out that "X-Men - Mutant Academy"'s composer is NOT Keith Arem (he did "X-Men - Mutant Academy 2"). It's David Logan.
EDIT: and also why XAs on many rips are @44.1kHz? They are @37800kHz originally. Problems with TAK conversion?

TAK = lossless = audio tracks = 44100Hz
XA = lossy = 37800Hz
At the moment I'm not able to upload as I'm in long term rehab with slow and controlled internet. I have previously downloaded all PSX titles A-G, which I will rip and upload in sonmething like 9 months.

UPDATE

I had to remove ALL links to my rips because of an error with my script - it previously cut away the last block, which of course is wrong. I've since updated the script several times. I'm currently working on the games A-F I downloaded. I CAN upload but only with 50KB/s which of course takes forever - 86 rips x 1 h per rip = 86 hrs upload - I don't think so...
I will keep the list of ripped games though so you can request games that I'll upload during the night from time to time.
