When this movie came out, I waited for the soundtrack release, I even had the physical copy ordered on the Best Buy website, but it never came.
Then after a while Lorne Balfe began sharing the tracks from the movie on his YouTube channel, so I ripped them and placed them in the order I thought they should be in.
I even got better YouTube rips when their OPUS encodes became available. I constantly updated the set here and shared it, it was the best we would have, until now.
Sylvos (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=125220) shared the full promo score in high-res 24-Bit quality here on Shrine. This was better than I could have hoped for. So now I just updated the set with the new true
lossless .Flac tracks, added the two .MP3 Kevin Kiner tracks ("The Leap" and "Don't Send A Rabbit To Kill A Fox"), and added the 3 rips from the Blu-ray that I did ("Logos",
and the "End Credits").

The two Kevin Kiner tracks came directly from his Website HERE (http://www.kevinkiner.com/music/).
Lorne Balfe's YouTube Channel can be found HERE (https://www.youtube.com/user/Metrophonics11).
Lorne Balfe's Facebook page can be found HERE (https://www.facebook.com/lorne.balfe.9).

So I hope you enjoy my efforts.

UPDATE (09-29-17):
Sylvos (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=125220) shared the full promo score in 24-Bit quaility. I then updated my set with the true lossless .Flac files, the two Kevin Kiner tracks and the 3 Blu-ray rips I did. The upload link is now updated.

UPDATE (12-31-17):
Lorne Balfe shared a new link on his Facebook page, it contained "full quality recordings", it's basically the same as the previous leaked promo score, but in .WAV format. It did however contain 3 new tracks "Holographic Conference Room", "Skinny Man Chase (Full version)" and "Kuze's Lair". The track "Skinny Man Chase (Full version)" is slightly longer than the previous one, and the previous one is the same, just shorter, so I removed the old one. So these new tracks have been added where they belong, and the link is updated, enjoy.

UPDATE (02-25-19):
schnoodledoop (http://forums.ffshrine.org/member.php?u=1121554) publicly shared the "Recording Sessions", so I finally got around to adding the extras from that set to mine to create an expanded set. I added 5 new tracks "1m03 Lies", "1m08b Glass Break", "2m16 1st Repair", "3m35 2nd Repair" and "5m51 Harbor Dive". I also edited out the intro and end silences from these tracks. I also combined the Blu-ray Logos with the opening intro from Shelling. and removed that bit from Shelling. That way the Shelling cue is just from that scene. Some Clint Mansell artist credits from BMI were added, I am not totally sure if they are correct, but I added them regarless. I updated my covers to reflect all this, the track-list and download link are now up to date, so enjoy this new expanded set.

Also to clarify, I kept the 24-Bit versions of the same tracks from the sessions leak which are 16-Bit. For example in the sessions 5m56 Cutter Kills Dr. (The promo score name of this track is What's Your Name?) is first, and then 6m57 Visiting Mom is next, as separate cues. The promo score version has both of these cues in one track, but 6m57 is first and then 5m56 kicks in.

It's the forbidden fruit. The music isn't particularly interesting (it's largely synth pads) but since it has a juicy backstory and was kept from the public, everyone wants it.

I saw the film and for me the soundtrack wasn't memorable. Neither was the movie. (The producers failed to follow Mike's advice from Breaking Bad and committed themselves to the errors of half measures.)

I agree the reason so many folks want it is because it is unavailable, at least for now. If enough discs are sold we might see a digital only release as was done with the soundtrack to Sunshine.

I think the score what interesting, but not great. I prefer Kenji Kawai's score for the original anime.
I think the movie is good (especially if compared to previous American adaptations of other animes), and for me it partially improved a few things of the original film but fails (not too hard, though) in other things. But it's not that memorable on the other hand.

UPDATE (08-18-17):
Lorne Balfe uploaded two tracks "What's Your Name?" and "I Give My Consent". These two track are actually the official versions of two of my edits. "What's Your Name?" is "Escape From Hanka" and "I Give My Consent" is "I Belong Here & This Is Justice". So now we can throw away my edits for those and listen to the official tracks. Also the track that Lorne previously uploaded "Glitch" got an OPUS encode available, so I upgraded that file with the new encode. All these new tracks will be in the updated link, as always enjoy.

yes yes. More people like you is needed to like this movie.
The trashing of assholes was incredibly nonsensical with a toilet paper length of excuses to say the movie is bad, when it snot. I am a fan of Shirow works, and damn the movie was great. Saw it 5 times in cinema. that means something.

Me and my brother were super hyped for the soundtrack release the moment we walked out of the cinema.. to then know it was canceled. The disappointment was that indeed.

Uhhhh so it's starting to look like Lorne Balfe completely replaced Clint Mansell, and if we do get a release, none of his music will be on it because everything Lorne Balfe has posted so far accounts for probably 90% of the movie.

No wonder they canceled the release altogether.

foxtown
08-26-2017, 12:41 AM
Can anyone tell me the logic, why Lorne has to release his music on youtube before he can sell it? Have I missed something? Normally it's other way around...

APV
08-26-2017, 12:47 AM
There was originally a score release planned (I even had it pre-ordered!) but it was Clint Mansell's score.

About a month before release Lorne Balfe and a few others were brought in to do "additional work," but it seems like Lorne Balfe has rescored most of the movie at this point. (One of the last few tracks that has yet to be shared is the ending and that's gotta be Balfe too, based on the tracks released so far.) Lakeshore doesn't want anything to do with it per their PR; they're buddies with Mansell and I believe he's not happy this happened.

So they need to work out a new release, likely under a different label, and that takes time. But Balfe has been posting tracks for the fans, with the promise that they'll get something better (a proper release) soon. I'd love to hear Mansell's original score, though.

Orie
08-26-2017, 01:19 AM
so...
the final work of the movie. The music is all Balfe and not Clint Mansell? I am lost at this

TheSkeletonMan939
08-26-2017, 01:20 AM
Clint Mansell wrote a score, then the film did poorly at test screenings, and Lorne Balfe was asked to write new music for 3/4 of the film.

Orie
08-26-2017, 01:30 AM
did poorly because of the music?

UPDATE (08-25-17):
Lorne Balfe uploaded three new tracks "Alternative Shelling Sequence", "Tank Battle" and "Confined". The track "Tank Battle" is the official version to my edit "Tank Battle End", so now I replaced it with the official one. The track "Alternative Shelling Sequence" was just released yesterday, and it already got a high quality OPUS encode, while the older track "Arrested" still has not gotten an OPUS encode. I also removed my edit of "1m06 Shelling', since Lorne will probably upload the official version soon. From now I'm going to refrain from doing edits till Lorne is done uploading the official tracks. I also updated my cover set to only show "Music Composed by Lorne Balfe", since from what we can see now, he did most of the work heard in the film, all three covers will be in the zip file.

TheSkeletonMan939
08-26-2017, 02:16 AM
did poorly because of the music?

No, test audiences just didn't like the film. When that happens, sometimes the studio will try to replace the score in an effort to make it more likeable to audiences. In this case they hired Lorne Balfe to add music that sounded like Kenji Kawai's choir for the original movie.

Reclaimedhalo
08-26-2017, 02:20 AM
What program/extension are you using to download these from YouTube?

No, test audiences just didn't like the film. When that happens, sometimes the studio will try to replace the score in an effort to make it more likeable to audiences. In this case they hired Lorne Balfe to add music that sounded like Kenji Kawai's choir for the original movie.

Exactly this.

What's the heads up about it? The two Kevin Kiner tracks are only available in .mp3, my edits are in .flac, the tracks that have an OPUS encode from YouTube are in .flac, and the ones that don't have an OPUS encode yet are in .m4a. We can't complain about what we get, we have to take what is available. I even noted that the Kiner tracks were .mp3 in the description of the post.

So they need to work out a new release, likely under a different label, and that takes time. But Balfe has been posting tracks for the fans, with the promise that they'll get something better (a proper release) soon. I'd love to hear Mansell's original score, though.

Or it will suffer the same fate as the Blade Runner soundtrack.

Or it will suffer the same fate as the Blade Runner soundtrack.

I doubt it. An official release of the score isn't yet announced, so they have plenty of time to do it in time. The problem with Ghost in the Shell is that all the Lorne Balfe rescoring thing happened after it was announced (and thus, already in preparation) a score release featuring only Clint Mansell's score.

The water fight—which sounds different from everything Balfe has released—is likely the only music from Mansell that wasn't rescored. I love the sparkle and really hope all of his original music is at least released standalone as an "alternate" album.

And I love this score. I often listen to Tron: Legacy, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Mirror's Edge/MEC on loop, and this fits right in. Not as solid overall, but it has some good moments. Love me some moody synths + live instruments + choir. Thanks Reclaimedhalo for putting this together!

There are some remaining musics we hope to come.
There is one music which appears many times but in a slightly different arrangement. You can hear it during the Skinny Man interrogation. The tune is used in a shorter way during the dialog about "the private network", and some other ways two or three times. The interrogation version is fully complete in the end titles music between reprise of "Major on site" and "The leap".

Anyway, we still waiting for the music when the major arrives to the appartment. a.s.o.

My guess if the score ever sees an official release it will be digital only, much like the score to Sunshine. I don't know if the soundtrack ran into production problems, I believe once Paramount realized GiTS was a box office bomb, it turned off the money spigot. And Lakeshore, being in business to make money, decided not to pony up the funds to release a score.

I was trying to find anything on ASCAP website, but I failed. Any chance to get a link or something?

I doubt Balfe will post on YouTube the whole score he did for the film. At best, he's previewing the cues he chose for the album he wants to release.
The music editors could combine some tracks that are less than 30 seconds into ones that are much longer and doing the same for Mansells's work as well if he decides to release his tracks to the film.

Recalimedhalo,

You're keeping this flame alive for us all! Thanks so much for your continued work on this score. This really is better than just getting a one-time official release!

Cheers,
TB

They did.

Some tracks posted on youtube by Lorne Balfe are combined film music cues

Why on earth would you want MP3. Just download the FLAC and convert it.

Omg people, could anyone give me please a link for ASCAP's playlist (or whatever it is)? I was trying to find Balfe's cues, but I've found two only. :V

This is a wonderful work. Does anyone know where to find tracks from Clint Mansell ? Even if in poor quality, I would like to listen to his compositions.
Thanks

Made a cover for this version of the soundtrack. (I actually made this one before the others I've done.)

How much did Mansell score, given his name was the one originally associated with the score?

Initially Clint Mansell was the only composer attached to the film. Eventually, most of his music was replaced by Lorne Balfe's. But since he's still credited as composer, some of the original Mansell score must be in the film.

Cannot tell how much of it remained... a small bit at least.

Replaced?

Woah.

So, potentially there is a 'rejected' or 'semi-rejected' Mansell score out there somewhere?

Imperivm

Yeah, I'd say "semi-rejected" since he's still credited (thus at least a small part of his work in still in the film).

I cannot tell if it's out there.

I would also love to hear Johann Johannsson's rejected score (there should be one) for Blade Runner 2049. Curious that these scores had a similar course, except that Ghost in the Shell doesn't have an official release yet.
