This concert was given by the BBC Concert Orchestra on January 11th of this year, in celebration of John Williams' 85th Birthday. It has a similar programme to the BBC Prom concert I posted earlier, but with some notable differences that make it well worth a listen. This concert is part of the famous, long running "Friday Night Is Music Night" series and was broadcast on BBC Radio 2, a popular music station. "Friday Night Is Music Night" is not a high-budgeted programme. The sound quality is not as polished as BBC Radio 3 productions (produced by the BBC's classical music department) and there is a great deal of dynamic range compression going on, too. It's still very listenable.

The upload is in FLAC, but originally captured from a lossy 320kbps AAC stream. It was uploaded in a lossless format to prevent any further generational loss.

LINKS GONE - Please check the thread, someone nice may have re-uploaded... ;)

ADDITIONAL FUN

The BBC recorded three parts of this concert in multitrack and offer a website where you can watch the orchestra playing the pieces and move around the ensemble, focusing on different instruments, with the auditory focus shifting in real time. It's a fascinating way to really get inside John Williams' orchestrations and hear exactly what's going on. You need the latest version of Chrome to make this work:

Enjoy :)

Download the FLAC and make it yourself, although please remember that this is a transcode of a lossy stream so re-encoding it is not recommended.
