Graphics do not make a game at all; they are merely there for eye candy. The most important aspect of RPG's, and a lot of video games in general, is the storyline and then probably gameplay. What is the point of a beautiful game with gorgeous graphics, but has an awful storyline and has bad gameplay?

i look for both... wait a minute... oh yeah, i look for both cuz they're both good reasons for a game to be a good game.

I totally agree. I'm also looking at the storyline first, and then at the gameplay.

During the game, I also look at the characters, the landscape etc. Good graphics might look nice, but that's not it.

What's the point of gameplay if everything you see is horribly done? Fable was a somewhat good example of this (at least to me). Everything is so damn rich in the game that it was a huge distraction as to what I'm supposed to be looking at. ;_;

It is a balance of both that makes a great game. You can make the greatest game system ever but if you don't present it well, it'll just bore out the eyes.

I think the storyline is the most important thing. I can cope with graphics, no matter how bad they seem.

Storyline, but graphics make a game more interesting even if they are not important at the end.

Graphics do not matter to me. The storyline is what makes a good game, great. Although often u do not understand the storyline at the start of the game(mostly all the time)So i look out for 1 thing- is it fun? Cant put words to it but a good RPG has got something from the start that a bad RPG dont have. 5 points to any1 who can help me put words to this"thing" good games have.

I agree with Smokey. Who would want to play a game that has amazing graphics but fails to grab your attention to the game's story? Also graphics, for me, play a small role. I usually look for a good fighting system and a good storyline in most RPG's I buy. In other words I fail to see how graphics make up for a crappy storyline.

I first look for storyline....graphics enchances how good it is but still the storyline is important. If the storyline is cheap, then there's no point in playing it not matter how good teh graphics is.

I generally look for good gameplay, and then a good storyline. It sucks when a game has a great story, but it's a chore to get through it because the gameplay is boring.

storyline and graphics out of 100% will give 50% each.

Definately Storyline first, and then Gameplay, and then Graphics.

I look for gameplay first, if the controls are clumsy and awkward then I'm never going to play a game long enough to enjoy the storyline.

Plot is second, I can't stand games with weak plots ( simple is ok, but weak is a big no no!) lastly is graphics, I still love games for the gameboy, and you can hardly say that (nowadys) the graphics are brilliant on that system

so yeah
1. Gameplay
2. Plot
3. Graphics

i would say plot ot #1 but horible gameplay can simply turn u away from the playing it cuz it be a pain in the ass, graphics are always a plus but not as eciential to as plot and gameplay...just think about how many people still play games lile ff1, or mario, or zelda, that all had good game play and or plot but graohics are horrible compared to todays standards

I would say character design before anything, because I think thats what seperates games from books and films and everything else. Its really big how you have a character a player can control and alter always stay in character no matter what te person does, and how you take something from the storyline and put it into graphics via the design teams behind it. And thats my two cents

I have to totally agree with Kemtach2999. I look for gameplay first, then a good storyline and I couldn't care less about graphics, I mean they're just a bonus. I've got some stupid ass friends who don't even play FFI-VI just because they don't like the early 2D graphics. They are totally missing out on great games just because they don't like the god damn graphics!

The general feel, the storyline, and then the soundtrack.

Haha, don't spam - use PMs :p

Also, everyone who knows me knows that i'll take storyline over graphics anyday. Gameplay has become an important factor though - between Final Fantasy X and Knights of the Old Republic, both have a deep engrossing storyline - but it's KOTOR's magnificent gameplay that tips the hat in its favour.

I'm gonna have to go with
1. Plot
2. Gameplay
-They can be switched as they're both equally important
3. Soundtrack
4. Graphics
