He was the founder of Screen Archives Entertainment (SAE), with a life-long passion for soundtrack music and all things film - amateur sculptor of film monsters, film historian, and in his personal life a rescuer of stray dogs and cats. He set the bar for soundtrack preservation by pursuing and befriending film composers, asking to copy and release their tapes to a wider audience who wanted to hear the original music, not a re-recording or pop song collection which the studios would offer in those early years. His greatest wish was to honor the composers and their music, and his output demonstrated that. David was 70 years old.
To learn more about him, read an interview with David otherwise known as D.L. Fuller:

I realize this forum is for upload links, but I wasnt sure collectors would take notice of this announcement in another forum.

He was my private source for the unreleased Gerry Fried, Paul Sawtell, Bert Shefter, etc, soundtracks I uploaded in 2016-2017. An extremely unique guy, and peculiarly well-equipped (photographic memory) to be able to identify unknown cues on soundtrack tapes through his recollection of decades of film watching.

Real gems you uploaded here in the past couple of years, sadsack, like the "Gerald Fried/Stanley Kubrick Collaboration". Didn't know it was thanks to him too.

May his soul rest in peace, and may the gods of film music welcome him with open arms in heaven.

Soundtrack collectors and enthusiasts the world over are poorer after today, whether we recognize the name pf David Fuller or not. We'll miss his service and contributions to our own collective audio libraries, however indirectly.

I"m sorry to hear this news Sadsack, particularly since you've lost a personal friend.

Thank you for sharing this bit of information.

His is a name that I've never heard before, but Screen Archives Entertainment has been very dear to me and a source of much joy for many, many years. There is no doubt he has touched my life in many hidden ways and definitely made it richer. A sad way to hear of David Fuller for the first time. I owe him may thanks. As I do you, too, Sadsack. As well as my condolences.

He was always friendly and helpful in the few email exchanges I had with him, and his decision to share all that amazing Fried music without personal gain was truly remarkable. We’re all richer for his passion and generosity.

Thank you, sadsack, for bringing Mr. Fuller's passing to our attention -- and, in so doing, helping personalize the music sharing/collecting of this forum. As TeddyV noted above, I was not familiar with Mr. Fuller, but I have regarded SAE as a valuable resource over the years. And your revelation that he was the source of all those incredible rarities you've shared, touches me. Indeed, I have been revisiting many of those Fried scores, immensely grateful for the introduction to a composer whom I had largely overlooked. Through SAE and by way of his (and your) shares, my knowledge is a little broader and my life a little brighter :)

When I saw the thread about Mr. Fuller on the FSM board this week, I immediately wondered if this was the source you had alluded to, Sadsack. RIP to this clearly amazing person and his important work preserving the colossally rich but commercially marginal oeuvre of Mr. Fried.
