I've been waiting all year for this and Wonder Woman and they both drop on the same day!

Thanks! Saw the film today. It's not perfect and it's first 20 minutes or so are really really rough and I found my interest dipping. But once it gets going, it gets pretty good. It's not the best in the series but it's still very enjoyable. As for the score, there's only three new themes I picked out; Salazar's theme, Carina's theme and a new action theme. Carina and the action theme are the best of the three. The rest of the score is just made up of themes from the previous films. Henry's Theme is just a more actiony version of One Day for instance. Which isn't to say the score is bad, it just doesn't really add anything new.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the movie and the score. I didn't personally like the bonus track that much. I liked Carina's theme and the more actiony version of One Day.

I was also somewhat disappointed with this score in that there was very little new/original material. A lot of music from On Stranger Tides was recycled in a slightly tweaked form: Blackbeard's theme is changed into Salazar's theme, bits and pieces of the Spanish theme are used in some of the action material, and the music from both Beckett's and Blackbeard's demise is re-used in the final battle. I did notice that this score seemed to be more of an orchestral score without much electronic manipulation which set it apart sound wise from the other four scores. I liked the film for the most part but not as much as parts 2 , 3 , and 4.

Yeah the series seemed like it should have ended after At World's End. The original trilogy was about Will and Elizabeth. Jack was just the gimmick to move the plot forward; he never changed as a character. Once Will and Elizabeth's story was over, we should have been done with it. But they insisted on trying to go and "explore" Jack's character, instead making him a caricature of what he used to be. Gone was the magic of seeing Jack being a badass or if he was just being lucky. We see him actually planning out stuff in OST for example. Perhaps it's also because we are kinda worn out by his character, since it isn't as fresh as it was before.

I noticed that both CotBP and AWE started with Jack standing on a boat while The Black Pearl track plays. Also noticed that both films ended with him uttering the "Drink up me hearties yo ho" line. To me it signified how it ended. Not to mention also how climatic the fight in AWE felt.
