Proving that turkeys can indeed fly, if not, in fact, soar, here's Jerry Goldsmith's exciting 1978 LP program to one of the dumbest all-star, big budget Hollywood movies to ever grace the silver screen.

As some of you may have surmised, this is a reproduction of the 1978 Warner Bros. LP utilizing the 2003 Prometheus CD (for those not in the know: the LP wasn't a re-recording). And maybe there is and maybe there isn't a pristine LP transfer floating around somewhere on the intertubes, but I've never come across it… only the ones that sound like shite… so, for the time being at least, this isn't entirely a wasted effort.

That said, hopefully this edit of mine will be consigned to the remainder bin in the not too distant future when one of the labels gets around to releasing the LP program and a re-mastered complete score as a 2CD package.

Notes:

1. Modest EQ to enliven dynamics along with very minor hiss reduction on the quieter tracks.
2. Nuttin' I can do about some of Prometheus's early fade-outs.

Really want to thank you for the effort to do this. Listening to it now in the LP version, brought back so much memories when I bought this LP as a very young 8 year old kid with savings from school allowances. It was the 2nd ever soundtrack and music album I ever bought (The first was John Barry's The Black Hole, the 3rd Star Wars). Back then, where I came from (a country in S.E. Asia), soundtrack albums are very rare. This version is special because back then, Goldsmith's score opened up a world of excitement, adventure and fantasy for me. Remembered how much I was gripped with imagination by this music. My father and my younger brother would be victimised by me as I subject them to countless playback while I described imagined scenarios to them. Both of them are no longer around. Really brought back lots of memories.....40 years on I still have that old LP as a keepsake.

The early 80s was an amazing time to become a die-hard Goldsmith fan. Prowling city to city, digging through record shops new and used. How I searched, and kept searching, for copies of Damnation Alley and Tora, Tora, Tora not aware that both were never released on LP.

And I don't know how many copies I wore out of The Swarm, Capricorn One, Star Trek, Alien, Logan's Run, The Omen, The Wind and the Lion, Papillon, Patton, The Sand Pebbles, Coma, The Great Train Robbery, Masada and even that paltry release of Planet of the Apes we had to settle for at the time. Every score was solid gold.

Unfortunately, my entire stored LP collection mysteriously went the way of the Dodo 5 years ago. A copy of QB VII was the one sole survivor.

Your experience sounded so much like mine. Hunting for soundtrack albums back then is such an exciting adventure when discovering a new album is like finding gold! Nowadays, just a click on the Net and you have it all. Kinda missed those days :) Thanks for the upload!

For those interested it's been pretty much confirmed by La La Land that this is coming in complete/expanded form (not necessarily from them). Sold my Prometheus and have a new/sealed LP bought approx 15 years ago, which I'm keeping.
