Jacques Demy & Michel Legrand's 1967 musical “Les Demoiselles de Rochefort” has received some attention recently as the inspiration for the visual style and musical sequences in the recent romantic comedy with music,"La La Land".
An English language version “The Young Girls of Rochefort”, was filmed simultaneously with the familiar French language version but was never exhibited anywhere except briefly in Australia and has never been restored or released on video. The familiar French version that is now on DVD was shown everywhere else, including the USA. The English language soundtrack LP was released by Philips as a truncated 40 minute LP only in Holland & Australia and quickly went out of print. It was finally released on CD recently but only as part of a multi disc box set of Michel Legrand’s film music. United Artists Records USA did release a LP of instrumental excerpts which featured the song orchestrations of the English Language version minus the lead vocals but with added chorus and additional instruments covering the vocal line. That album went out of print in the 1970s and has never been reissued completely as of this writing. This new DSD remix is a compilation that expands the United Artists album with dance music which was identical in both versions increasing the 30 minute LP to 50 minutes. To bring the program to CD length this download also includes a 27 minute symphonic suite from Legrand & Demy’s 1964 earlier hit, “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg”, recorded by Legrand in the 1970s with the London Symphony Orchestra, which was originally released on LP with a suite from Legrand’s score for “The Go-between” (Treehorn just posted that complete album on the forum). Both suites were mastered from DSD archived tape sources preserving the glorious 1960s & 70s analog sound in digital. There is some really exuberant music here and the orchestrations are “Hollywood lush” at its best (with a French twist).

Yes! Thanks a lot, steviefromalaska!! Added some rep.

Edit: is there any additional info about the CD? What or who is DSD? And how does this

DSD, which stands for Direct Stream Digital, refers to the process used to transfer the reel tapes of this program to digital format for remixing and/or remastering the recording on the computer with professional mastering tools. The high sampling rate of one bit processing allows for a more accurate retention of the analog sound of the original master tape and produces a warmer, musical sound associated with the best analog audiophile tapes. The LP in the Discogs link is a 1970s LP release of a portion of the program offered in the download, with the same cover. But none of this download was derived from a LP; it was transferred from a tape source. There was never any commercial CD release of these recordings except partially in a very expensive Legrand box set and the mastering of that set is not the same as in this download.
