On Saturday 13th May 2017 at 7:30pm Burgess Hill Symphony Orchestra will present their Spring Concert at St. Andrew�s Church, Junction Road, Burgess Hill, RH15 0LG.

- The Terminal - Viktor's Tale
- Hook - The Flight to Neverland
- Jurassic Park - Theme from Jurassic Park
- Superman - Prelude & Main Title
- E.T. The Extra Terrestrial - Flying Theme
- Munich - A Prayer for Peace
- Memoirs of a Geisha - Sayuri's Theme / The Chairman's Waltz
- Star Wars Suite

...plus a few surprises!!


This concert will be narrated by BBC Proms presenter Katie Derham.

This year we mark the 85th birthday of John Williams. Directed by Mike Wood BEM, the orchestra will celebrate this event with an exciting series of pieces from the many acclaimed film scores that he composed during his life. The programme has been expertly planned to showcase a wide spectrum of musical styles and emotions, from the tear jerking Schindler�s List �I Could Have Done More� to the magical Flight to Neverland from Hook, and the perhaps less well-known jaunty theme from The Terminal. Fans of the Star Wars films are in for a treat too. This programme will appeal to all ages. Accompanied children are free.

I would go myself on the offchance but I have no car at the moment.

Wow, there's nothing like completely missing glaringly obvious information... I is are dumb...

It is a real pleasure!

I haven't had the pleasure of hearing your orchestra in person but I've heard it online and heard good things about it from my friends. From the perspective of a film-score fan, it's really nice (and extremely encouraging) to know that the orchestra has someone on the "inside" with a genuine passion for the music. I once broached the topic of a film music concert to my local orchestra (the Wandsworth Symphony) and the response was something along the lines that playing such poor quality, populist music would be deeply insulting to their talents! (But they thought nothing of regularly programming terrible music - including a rambling hour long symphony - which just happened to be written by the local councillor who was a patron of the orchestra...)

I live on the A3 on the outskirts of SW London so I've been around that area before. (Closest I think I ever got was Haywards Heath.)

I see from your profile that you also compose - have you been performed? :)

I have. Our last film music concert was opened with a superhero movie flavoured overture by me. Very gratifying to hear it live, and also that it stood side-by-side with Williams etc. without sounding inferior!

In this concert we're playing a few pieces which I engraved, including the Superman Prelude & Main Title, and Schindler's List "I Could Have Done More" (or "Saved" More....depending on whether you go by the title in the soundtrack or on the original cue).

Chris, congrats on your piece being performed on the recent concert and congrats also on finishing the End Credits to Indy Jones and the Last Crusade. Saw at your website that you were able to attend a local performance of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it's great, isn't it? I was lucky enough to perform (second violin also!) a live performance of film score in Boca Raton, FL (USA) last March. Was a highlight of my career; such an appreciative audience and of course one of Williams' best scores!!

Thanks mate, the concert was an absolute blast and a huge success. I may well put the video of it here at some point soon (just getting the OK from the orchestra committee that everyone's happy that it "shows us in a good light". Unfortunately Warner-Chappell have seen fit to block the Raiders March part for copyright reasons (even though all of the other pieces we played have also been flagged for copyright and approved by the holders as long as they could place an ad on the video and receive revenues, which I am totally fine with). #RantOver
I think my next "live to projection" outing will be Star Wars. I'd highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't yet experienced the new fad. They're phenomenal!
